Biography Uhl studied with Franz Schmidt at the Vienna Music Academy , receiving a diploma in composition with honours in 1932. He subsequently worked as Kapellmeister of the Swiss Festspielmusik in Z rich . While there he composed scores for a variety of cultural and industrial films . He returned to Vienna in 1938 and in 1940 was drafted into the Austrian Army . From 1940 to 1942 he commanded a French prison camp in Neumarkt . He joined the faculty of the Vienna Music Academy in 1945, where he taught theory, orchestration and composition until his retirement in 1980. One of his notable students was Alfred Prinz . He was the recipient of the Vienna Schubert Prize 1943 , the Austrian State Prize 1960 , the Vienna Music Prize 1961 , the Viennese Gold Medal of Honour 1969 and the Austrian Badge of Honour for Service and Arts 1980 .     Edwin Fuller Uhl August 14, 1841 &ndash May 17, 1901 was a prominent Michigan lawyer and politician . He served as List of mayors of Grand Rapids, Michigan Mayor of Grand Rapids, Michigan , United States Ambassador to Germany Ambassador to Germany and United States Assistant Secretary of State . Uhl was born in the township of Rush, New York , the son of David M. and Catherine De Garmo Uhl. The family moved to a farm near Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1844. Uhl graduated from the University of Michigan in 1862 and received an M.A. degree from the same institution in 1863. He then studied law , gaining admission to the Michigan bar association bar in January 1864, and began practice. He would practice law alone and in partnerships for the next thirty years. The Gears existed one season and part of another, from 1998 to December 19, 1999. On December 20, 1999, the team left Saginaw, Michigan Saginaw , Michigan in the middle of the night and moved to Massillon, Ohio Massillon , Ohio to finish the season as the Ohio Gears . The team took their name from the Saginaw Gears IHL as part of a marketing plan by then owner, Dr. Khaled M. Shukairy, as an attempt boost poor attendance after two horrible seasons as the LumberKings. The Gears played their home games at Wendler Arena in the The Dow Event Center Saginaw Civic Center now known as The Dow Event Center in downtown Saginaw. Due to poor attendance, the team was moved by UHL commissioner Richard Brosal to Massillon Ohio after a new 6500 seat arena was to be built. The City of Massillon and Developers never followed through with the arena and the ownership were forced to dissolve and cease operations. The Ohio Gears folded in the summer of 2000, after an unsuccessful resurrection attempt as the Canton Ice Patrol Arctic Xpress .
