It hosted many famous musicians from Don Francks to Sonny Rollins , operating from 1956 through 1984. George s was equivalent to Mr. Kelly s in Chicago, Illinois Chicago , another famous jazz club in the red light district, open late, with Italian cuisine Italian food , and a tiny stage, garish red and purple lighting, and late night jam sessions often where unexpected jazz musicians came to play. Black XXX Mas is a 1999 short film by Belgium Belgian filmmaker Pieter Van Hees about a poor family on Christmas Eve , in a story that loosely follows Little Red Riding Hood . It stars Rochelle Gadd , Don Warrington , and Manou Kersting . Plot Little Red Rochelle Gadd goes out on Christmas Eve to buy some drugs on the dangerous streets, aptly named The Forest . She is caught with a joint by a crooked police officer, Wolfy Manou Kersting , who seems more interested in molesting Red than making the arrest. When some careless tourists snap photos of Wolfy s lewd behavior, he is forced to shoot them, then eats Red, the only witness. Meanwhile, Red s father, Black Santa Don Warrington , goes out to steal some presents from rich families. He happens to break into Wolfy s house, and ends up having sex with his wife. Wolfy comes home to find his wife with Santa, and shoots her. Santa manages to grab a gun from above the fireplace and shoots Wolfy. Hearing Red s voice coming from inside Wolfy s body, Santa tears open Wolfy s body to find his daughter safe, although shaken. Later in the evening, Red and her family sing carols around the Christmas tree , which is now topped by a star, Wolfy s police badge. The film is notable for being shamelessly over the top, including entirely gratuitous nudity, excessive violence, and bright garish colours throughout. It begins with a dramatic but entirely unnecessary overhead crane shot. Channel 4 introduced this short film noting it was almost the antithesis of the minimalism Dogme 95 school of filmmaking. It was originally built in the 16th century. Today it is one of the more opulent palazzi on the canal, distinguished by its mosaic s of Murano glass applied in 1886. At the time it was owned by the proprietors of one of the glass factories, who took their cue from the exterior mosaics on the facade of St Mark s Basilica . The palazzo follows the Renaissance pattern of design on three floors an open loggia gives access to the canal surmounted by a Piano nobile with open loggias and decorated columns, with a secondo piano nobile secondary floor above. The comparatively modern mosaics probably cover original windows, and obliviate the original design. When the mosaics were executed, the then new owners were decried by their more Aristocracy class aristocrat ic neighbours as nouveaux riches , and their taste garish and out of keeping with the genteel decay of the neighbouring buildings. However, it should be remembered that many of the Renaissance palazzi on the canal were once too covered in polychrome and Gilding gilt decorations, with elaborate plaster and stucco work adding to their splendour.
