At the lower end of the kidney it turns medialward toward the lateral border of the Psoas major muscle psoas muscle, and then descends, in the angle between psoas and quadratus lumborum , to the crest of the ilium, where it ends in the sigmoid colon . The peritoneum covers its anterior surface and sides, and therefore the descending colon is described as retroperitoneal. The transverse colon and sigmoid colon, which are immediately proximal and distal, are intraperitoneal . Its posterior surface is connected by areolar tissue with the lower and lateral part of the left kidney, the aponeurotic origin of the transversus abdominis , and the quadratus lumborum. It is smaller in caliber and more deeply placed than the ascending colon . It has a mesentery in 33 of people, and is therefore more frequently covered with peritoneum on its posterior surface than the ascending colon which has a mesentery in 25 of people . A colon Greek polytonic , pl. cola is a rhetorical figure consisting of a clause which is grammatically, but not logically, complete. In Latin language Latin , it is called a membrum or membrum orationis . Sentences consisting of two cola are called dicola those with three are tricolon tricola . The corresponding adjectives are dicolic and tricolic colic is not used in this sense. An isocolon is a sentence composed of cola of equal syllabic length. Septuagint used this system in the poetic books. When Jerome translated the books of Prophets, he arranged the text colometrically. The colometric system was used by bilingual codices of New Testament , f.e. Codex Bezae , Codex Claromontanus . Also some Greek and Latin manuscript used this system, including Codex Coislinianus and Codex Amiatinus . Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 Norbert Colon is an occasional character in the United Kingdom British comic , Viz comics Viz . Norbert Colon debuted in 1985, an early creation of Simon Thorp, who would later become part of the Viz editorial team. He is a wretched and ugly looking old man who, being an extreme miser , goes to ludicrous extremes to save money. He is described as being as tight as a gnat s chuff but in his own words, I m careful, that s all . For example, in one strip, Norbert Colon sees a pair of shoes in a charity shop for 2 pence. He promptly goes home, saws off his legs and sells his limbs to a meat factory for use in pies. Norbert gets paid 2 pence for his dismembered legs, and rolling himself around on a makeshift skateboard he goes back to the charity shop and buys the boots. Apparently, Norbert s annual budget is only 10 pence. His first two appearances were both full length layouts. His first strip set the tone, with Colon beating up a charity collector and watching his teabag collapse after 127 uses. The second was a spoof of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens , with Colon as Ebenezer Scrooge . The story ends with Colon cooking Tiny Tim and serving him to the Bob Cratchit Cratchits in place of a Christmas Turkey . A 2007 strip found Norbert passing a butcher s shop window and admiring the cow s tongue for sale, but unwilling to pay the perfectly reasonable price for it. To be able to eat tongue without paying for it, he went home and cut off his own tongue, then ate it ... and discovered he was unable to taste it. A similarly themed story, but more childlike, called Jasper The Grasper appeared in Cor in the 1970s. Category Viz characters ... more details
