The candy is packed in moisture resistant, air tight bags, to prevent moisture and airborne containments from spoiling the product. It is available in popular seasonal varieties, including Snow Balls Christmas, Cotton Tails Easter, and Spider Webs Halloween. The history of Fluffy Stuff started in Italy during the 15th century. It was first called spun sugar . The old fashioned way of making cotton candy was to first melt sugar. Then, using a fork, pull the sugary liquid out and place it over an upside down bowl pan. The dried form of strings were then served as dessert. William Morrison and John C. Wharton were candy makers whom created a machine in the 19th century. They started the mass production for cotton candy . The machines made large amounts of candy, adding flavor and coloring to the mixture. Sugar liquid was forced through a screen which created sugar strings. The strings were then collected in a large bowl and twirled around cardboard cones. Soon the candy is ready to eat. The two named this sweet treat , Fairy Floss . It was sold in boxes at St. Louis World Fair in 1904 for twenty five cents a box. A box of Fairy Floss cost one half admission price to the world fair, meaning the candy was expensive during that time. 68,655 boxes were sold. A year later, a candy store purchased Morrison and Wharton s machine. The store sold Fairy Floss around five to ten cents per box. The pair skip school one day to avoid a nasty teacher and wander onto the roof. The staircase that they discover leads them above the clouds. They meet friendly pink clouds, dangerous storm clouds, and a flock of yellow birds. Their adventure is fast paced, suitable for readers of many ages. The Clouds Above appeared originally as a weekly webcomic , under the name Cloud Country. This series was a precursor to the final book, with some pages omitted and others only black and white drawings.
