The VolunteerJam was the annual Charlie Daniels Band concert first held on October 4, 1974 at the War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee This was the beginning of a tradition. The 2nd VolunteerJam was released in the form of a movie. It was billed as the First Southern Rock movie, even appearing in theaters across the US. The movie was re released on DVD in 2007. Regulars at the Nashville VolunteerJam concerts included the late George McCorkle , Jimmy Hall , Dickie Betts , Henry Paul musician Henry Paul , Dobie Gray , the late Toy Caldwell , drummer Gary Pacemaker , and others. In 1979, Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited for the first time since the 1977 plane crash, with several members of the Charlie Daniels Band. CDB keyboardist Taz Digregorio took lead vocals on Call Me The Breeze followed by an extended instrumental version of Free Bird . In 1987 Lynyrd Skynyrd returned to the stage for only the second time, also at the VolunteerJam. It is sturdy, designed for hard hitting and is becoming more and more popular with modern drummers and percussionists, due to its durability and sound. Jam blocks are usually attached to timbales and drum kits or are used as stand alone orchestra instruments. These blocks are often used in Salsa music Salsa , Cuban, and Latin American music , although some modern drummers have made use of them in rock music rock songs. Jam Blocks are often used in the marching percussion idiom as well. There are several manufacturers of jam blocks, though they sell them under different names. The main manufacturers include Latin Percussion LP , Pearl Drums Pearl , Meinl Percussion Meinl and Toca. There are various different colours of block, these colours usually represent the pitch and are different for each manufacturer. Many cheaper manufacturers use LP s Blue Red classification system. Larger jam blocks have a lower pitch than smaller ones. Other variations of this instrument include the stealth jam block and the guiro jam block, a combination of the guiro and low pitch jam block, blast blocks, sambango bells and granite blocks.
