The Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia was about to be claimed and annexed by the German Chancellor Adolf Hitler and to this end Hitler had demanded the withdrawal of all Czech troops and police by the 1st October 1938. This alarmed the other European countries and after discussion Hitler agreed to a Plebiscite controlled by an International Commission. 1. Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force

The Niger Delta People s Volunteer Force http www.akumafiete.org is one of the largest armed groups in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria and is composed primarily of members of the region s largest ethnic group, the Ijaw people Ijaw . The group was founded in 2004 in an attempt to gain more control over the region s vast petroleum resources, particularly in Delta State . The NDPVF has frequently demanded a greater share of the oil wealth from both the state and federal government and has occasionally supported independence for the Delta region. Until 2005 the group was spearheaded by their presently incarcerated Citation needed date February 2010 charisma tic leader, Mujahid Dokubo Asari Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari , who is viewed by many Delta residents as a folk hero . Founding and initial conflict The NDPVF s strongly Ijaw people Ijaw agenda has led to conflict with both the Nigerian state and federal governments, as well as with neighboring ethnic groups, notably long time rivals the Itsekiri . This rivalry precipitated a number of conflicts in the region, centered primarily around the cities of Warri, Nigeria Warri and subsequently the oil capital of Port Harcourt . The issue of local government ward allocation has proven particularly contentious, as the Ijaw feel that the way in which wards have been allocated ensures that their superior numbers will not be reflected in the number of wards controlled by politicians of Ijaw ethnicity. Control of the city of Warri, the largest metropolitan area in Delta State and therefore a prime source of political patronage , has been an especially fiercely contested prize. This has given birth to heated disputes between the Ijaw, the Itsekiri and the Urhobo about which of the three groups are truly indigenous to the Warri region, with the underlying presumption being that the real indigenes should have control of the levers of power, regardless of the fact that all three groups enjoy ostensibly equal political rights in their places ...   more details

  1. Militia (Great Britain)

The Militia of Great Britain were the principal military reserve forces of the Kingdom of Great Britain during the 18th century. For the period following the creation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801, see Militia United Kingdom . Great Britain In 1707, the Acts of Union 1707 Acts of Union united the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland into the Kingdom of Great Britain . The Royal Scots Navy was incorporated into the Royal Navy , and the Scottish military as opposed to naval forces merged with the English, with the regular Scottish regiments maintaining their identities, although the command of the new British Army was from England. The Militia Act 1757 had effect only in England and Wales and aimed to create a professional national military reserve. Records were kept, and the men were selected by ballot to serve for longer periods. Uniforms and weapons were provided, and the force was embodied from time to time for training. The threat of Ireland s belligerent all Protestant militia to copy the American colonists and seek to free their country from British control if Ireland s demands for free trade were not met, and the inability of the British, after years of war overseas, to police Ireland easily, would later lead to the Union of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Ireland into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.
