The technique of visualization or visualisation consists of creating a mental image of a desired outcome, and repeatedly playing that image in the mind. A http nccam.nih.gov news 2004 052704.htm survey released in May 2004 by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine focused on who used category alternative medicine complementary and alternative medicine CAM , what was used, and why it was used in the United States by adults age 18 years and over during 2002. According to this recent survey, visualization, or guided imagery, was the 10th most commonly used CAM therapy 2.1 in the United States during 2002 http nccam.nih.gov news report.pdf table 1 on page 8 when all use of prayer was excluded. Consistent with previous studies, this study found that the majority of individuals i.e., 54.9 used CAM in conjunction with conventional medicine page 6 . The fact that only 14.8 of adults sought care from a licensed or certified CAM practitioner suggests that most individuals who use CAM prefer to treat themselves page 6 . In alternative medicine visualization sometimes occurs in conjunction with medical treatment, including cancer treatment see oncology . In one example of a visualization, one can imagine cancer cells as some slimy form of sea life being consumed by white sharks, which represent the body s immune cells. Athletes sometimes use visualization to try to help them succeed at their sport . Visualization forms part of Rosicrucianism and Esotericism in general. Magick also employs visualization. unreferenced date February 2011 Orphan date February 2011 Rapid visualization also known as rapid vis is a technique used by graphic artist s to create a Concept art drawing of a concept in several stages. After the completion of thumbnail thumbnail drawing s, a preferred drawing is selected and rendered in full size, usually in pencil . Then a sheet of paper layout bond is put over the drawing and it is redrawn traced with corrections, additions, and alterations. This process is repeated several times, often with color added at some stage, until the image is perfected to the desire of the artist. The purpose of rapid vis is to take an idea from concept to accurate rendering without having to start over from scratch each time an edit or alteration is desired. The completed drawing is usually still considered a rough layout or comprehensive for approval submission as opposed to artwork finished art for framing or camera ready art for reproduction . Computergraphics lighting refers to the simulation of light in computergraphics . This simulation can either be extremely accurate, as is the case in an Application software application like Radiance which attempts to track the energy flow of light interacting with materials using radiosity computational techniques. Alternatively, the simulation can simply be inspired by light physics , as is the case with non photorealistic rendering . In both cases, a shading model is used to describe how surfaces respond to light. Between these two extremes, there are many different rendering computergraphics rendering approaches which can be employed to achieve almost any desired visual result. Computergraphics lighting can also refer to the employment job of lighting in computer animation . A computergraphics lighter will employ many of the same methods a live action lighting designer or gaffer motion picture industry gaffer might employ. However, the computergraphics lighter will work within a computergraphics application.
