Verus came from Aequum in Dalmatia, probably the son of Sextus Julius Severus consul 127 , born in 112. He served as tribune in the legio X Fretensis when his father was governor of Judaea in 132 5. The he served as monetalis , quaestor Augusti , and was co opted as an augur all suggest that he was marked out at an early career for a prominent career. He was the legatus of the Legio XXX Ulpia Victrix Legio XXX Ulpia Victrix in Germania Inferior in the 140s, then prefect or the aerarium Saturni . He was consul in 151. In 154 Verus was sent to Roman Britain Britain as governor, a position that he held until at least 158. His dispatch to Britain with troops from Germany was probably meant to put down a revolt there, or at least to reinforce the remnants of the troops who had done so. The revolt had been led by the Brigantes tribe and had resulted in the abandonment of the Antonine Wall and a possible slaughter at the fort at Newstead . Verus stripped the Brigantes of much of their territory, possibly in order to provide land to build a new civitas , or to be donated to the emperor. He was replaced in 158. Lucilla was the daughter of Domitia Lucilla Major Major Latin for the elder and the patrician Publius Domitius Calvisius Tullus Ruso and was a niece to Lucanus Domitius. The maternal grandfather of the younger Lucilla, Lucius Catilius Severus served as twice consul and became city Prefect . Lucilla s father served as consul in 109 and the date of his second consulship is unknown. Lucilla through her mother had inherited a great fortune and had acquired her mother s wealth. Her inheritance included a tile and brick factory near Rome and was close to the river Tiber . The factory provided bricks to Rome s most famous monuments including the Colosseum , Pantheon, Rome Pantheon and the Market of Trajan. The factory sold bricks to France , Spain , North Africa and all over the Mediterranean. Lucilla married Marcus Annius Verus praetor Marcus Annius Verus , a praetor , who came from a wealthy senatorial family. Verus sister Faustina the Elder was a Roman Empress and married the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius . Verus was a nephew to Roman Empress Vibia Sabina and his maternal grandmother was Salonina Matidia niece of Roman Emperor Trajan . With Verus, they had two children, a son, the future Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius 26 April 121 and a daughter Annia Cornificia Faustina 122 123 between 152 158 . In 124, her husband died. Her children were raised by herself and they were adopted by her father in law. Marcus Aurelius would later inherit the tile and brick factory. Sulpicius Cornelianus was a Ancient Rome Roman rhetorician . He lived in the reign of the Roman Emperor s Marcus Aurelius and Verus . This puts him in the late 2nd century Aurelius and Verus reigned from 161 to 180 . Cornelianus acted as secretary to Marcus Aurelius. The grammarian Phrynichus Arabius speaks of Cornelianus with high praise Phrynichus dedicated his Ecloga to him, and describes him as worthy of the age of the great orator Demosthenes . ref Cf.
