- Control valves
Control valves are valves used to control conditions such as Fluid dynamics flow , pressure , temperature , and liquid level by fully or partially opening or closing in response to signals received from controllers that compare a setpoint to a process variable whose value is provided by sensors that monitor changes in such conditions. ref cite book author Bela G. Liptak Editor title Instrument Engineers Handbook edition 4th Edition publisher CRC Press year 2003 isbn 0 8493 1083 0 ref The opening or closing of control valves is done by means of electrical , hydraulic or pneumatic systems. Positioners are used to control the opening or closing of the actuator based on Electric, or Pneumatic Signals. These control signals, traditionally based on 3 15psi 0.2 1.0bar , more common now are 4 20mA signals for industry, 0 10V for HVAC systems, & the introduction of Smart systems, HART, Fieldbus Foundation, & Profibus being the more common protocols. Types of control valve bodies The most common and versatile types of control valves are sliding stem globe and angle valves. Their popularity derives from rugged construction and the many options available that make them suitable for a variety of process applications, including severe service. ref http www.plantservices.com articles 2003 124.html Hagen, S. 2003 Control valve technology Plant Services ref Control valve bodies may be categorized ... - Pneumatic non-return valves
unreferenced date August 2009 Pneumatic non return valves are used where a normal non return valve would be ineffective. This is for example where there is a risk of flood water entering a site but an equal risk of pollution or a chemical spills leaving a site and polluting the environment. Pneumatic non return valves are installed below ground and can be used to pneumatically lock the non return valve closed thus containing a site in the event of a spill. It is common practice to lock sites using pneumatic non return valves during the loading or transferring of chemicals or hazardous waste. Pneumatic non return valves have a longer service life when compared to pneumatic bladder systems. Category Valves ... more details

- Spiral valves of Heister
Spiral valves of Heister are undulating folds or valves in the proximal mucosa of the cystic duct . The cystic duct attaches the gallbladder to the common bile duct . The spiral valves of Heister are supported by underlying smooth muscle fibers. There is some uncertainty regarding the role of the folds. Historically, physicians believed that their function was to aid in the passage of bile to and from the gallbladder, as well as regulate the degree of gallbladder distension. The presence of the spiral folds, in combination with the tortuosity of the cystic duct, makes endoscopic cannula tion and catheterization of the cystic duct extremely difficult. Also, the valves of Heister impede the introduction of surgical instruments and are susceptible to laceration s. They were named after German anatomist Lorenz Heister 1683 1758 . - Pneumatic flow control
Pneumatic flow control is the use of air as a control medium, or as the controlled medium, in which one medium controls the Fluid dynamics flow of another. Pneumatic flow control taxonomy There are two possible pneumatic flow controls those that are controlled by pneumatics , and those that control pneumatics. Pneumatically controlled valves Pneumatically controlled valves are valves that are controlled by pressurized air. These may include water flow valves that are controlled by compressed air. Pneumatically controlling valves Pneumatically controlling valves are valves that control the flow of pressurized air. Another medium such as water hydraulics or electricity, for example, may be used to control the valves. In some cases, the valves are operated manually rather than automatically. - Pilot valve
A pilot valve is a small valve that controls a limited flow control feed to a separate piloted valve. Typically, this valve controls a high pressure or high flow feed. Pilot valves are useful because they allow a small and easily operated feed to control a much higher pressure or higher flow feed, which would otherwise require a much larger force to operate indeed, this is even useful when a solenoid is used to operate the valve. Pilot valves are often used in critical applications i.e., emergency and safety controls and are human operated. They can be set up as a push to activate or dead man s switch . tech stub Category valves ... more details
