  1. Elektor Junior Computer

The Elektor Junior Computer was a simple MOS Technology 6502 6502 based Microprocessor development board published in the 1980s in the Dutch, German and later French, Spanish and British versions of Elektor Elektor Elektuur , in the form of a series of articles, and four books. It was developed by the German engineer Loys Nachtmann. In fact the Junior Computer was a virtual clone of the KIM 1 , only it did not use the special I O ROM chips MCS6530 but rather an off the shelf MOS Technology 6532 6532 PIA and a 2708 1K EPROM . It also had a different physical shape, as it used the Eurocard PCB Eurocard board, and a 31 pin DIN connector for I O and a DIN 41612 connector for system expansion. It was delivered as a Electronic kit , or you could just buy the two Printed circuit board s main board and Seven segment display board only, and add your own components. As it was much lower in price than an original KIM, many more Junior computers several thousands were used in the Netherlands, Germany and France, than original KIM 1 s. Later extension boards were developed, and a BASIC interpreter was ported. Elektor Expansion boards specifically for the Junior were an I O Interface card including a MOS Technology 6532 6532 VIA , a Tape Recorder interface and a RS232 port , a VDU video terminal an improvement of the previous elekterminal design , an EPROM and Static random access memory SRAM expansion board, an 16 64KB DRAM board and Programmer hardware EPROM programmer board, and even a floppy disk controller , as well as a dozen smaller boards for small improvements and interfaces etc. External links http www.hansotten.com coljunior.html pictures of the Junior Computer and several expansion boards http retro.hansotten.nl index.php?page junior unofficial Junior computer website Category Early microcomputers computer stub de Junior Computer es Junior Computer fr Junior Computer ...   more details

  1. Data Language Interface

Data Language Interface Data Language I, DL I, Data Language Interface, Data Language One ref cite web url http www 03.ibm.com servers eserver zseries zvse products database.html dli title IBM z VSE Products and components publisher IBM accessdate 2009 06 27 ref is the language system used to access International Business Machines IBM s Information Management System IMS database s, and its data communication system. It is implemented from any language by making calls to a software stub, DFSLI000. This stub has entry points to handle a variety of programming languages e.g. calling CBLTDLI from a COBOL program. This stub is linked to the calling program, passes on the request to the IMS system, and returns the results and a status code. In any full function IMS database, the smallest element that can be retrieved is a segment . Each segment is made up of fields , one of which, typically, will be a key field. The segments are arranged hierarchically in the database, the highest level segment type being a root segment. 255 different segment types, on up to 15 levels, are allowed in any database. A database record consists of a specific root segment and all its dependent child segments &mdash there is no limit to the number of segments in a record, or to the number of records in a database apart from physical limitations of storage space . The structure of any database is presented to the application program as a PCB Program Control Block , and this is used as one of the parameter s passed to the stub. Other types of PCB are used to send and receive transaction processing messages, access and write to the user s computer display VDU screen, and to print reports etc. When accessing a database segment the application program also uses an SSA Segment Search Argument as a parameter, to specify the segment or segments that it needs. This would typically contain the segment type required, and the contents of any key fields. For all languages except PL I , first parameter in a ...   more details
