It is continuous with the two posterior layers of the greater omentum , which, after separating to surround the transverse colon, join behind it, and are continued backward to the vertebral column , where they diverge in front of the anterior border of the pancreas . This fold contains between its layers the vessels which supply the transverse colon. Transverse mesocolon is a derivative of dorsal mesentery in the embryo. Image2 Gray1040.png Caption2 Diagram showing the lines along which the peritoneum leaves the wall of the abdomen to invest the viscera. Sigmoid mesocolon labeled at bottom right, third from the bottom. System MeshName MeshNumber DorlandsPre m 10 DorlandsSuf 12526431 The sigmoid mesocolon is the fold of peritoneum which retains the sigmoid colon in connection with the pelvic wall . Its line of attachment forms a V shaped curve, the apex of the curve being placed about the point of division of the left common iliac artery . The curve begins on the medial side of the left Psoas major , and runs upward and backward to the apex, from which it bends sharply downward, and ends in the median plane at the level of the third sacral vertebra . The sigmoid and superior hemorrhoidal vessels run between the two layers of this fold. This binds the large intestine to the posterior abdominal wall. It also carries blood and lymphatic vessels to the intestines. Together, the mesentary and mesocolon hold the intestines loosely in place, allowing movement as muscular contractions mix and move the luminal contents along the G.I. tract. Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 A transverse arrowhead is a type of trapezoidal projectile point most commonly associated with the European Mesolithic and Neolithic periods although it is also found in other regions and periods. Unlike a conventional arrowhead which tapers to a point, the transverse arrowhead usually widens to a cutting edge and was hafted onto an arrow shaft at its narrowest point. Other types have parallel sides but in any case transverse arrowheads are always wider than they are long. Image Ondes cisaillement 2d 20 petit.gif thumb 305px Propagation of a transverse spherical wave in a 2d grid empirical model A transverse wave is a moving wave that consists of oscillations occurring perpendicular or right angled to the direction of energy transfer. If a transverse wave is moving in the positive x direction, its oscillations are in up and down directions that lie in the y z plane. If you anchor one end of a ribbon or string and hold the other end in your hand, you can create transverse waves by moving your hand up and down. Notice though, that you can also launch waves by moving your hand side to side. This is an important point. There are two independent directions in which wave motion can occur. In this case, these are the y and z directions mentioned above. Further, if you carefully move your hand in a clockwise ... of water in general a wave on a string can be two dimensional . - Transverse mass
The transverse mass is a useful quantity to define for use in particle physics as it is invariant under Lorentz boost along the z direction. In natural units it is math m T 2 m 2 p x 2 p y 2 , math where the z direction is along the beam pipe and so math p x math and math p y math are the momentum perpendicular to the beam pipe and math m math is the mass. For a two particle system the formula is often recast as math m T 2 E T, 1 E T, 2 2 overrightarrow E T, 1 overrightarrow E T, 2 2 math References cite journal author J.D.
