Theadora Van Runkle born 27 March 1928 in Los Angeles is an USA American costume designer . Theodora Van Runkle designed the gown Faye Dunaway wore to the 1968 Oscars. She also designed Faye Dunaway s complete off screen wardrobe at the time. The chain currently operates three centres across the country. History Theadora Warmerdam, co founder of Van Hage was evacuated from the Netherlands to England during the Second World War in 1940. As the eldest of 6 children Theadora took over the running of the family business at the age of 20 when her father died in 1948. Cornelius Van Hage, co founder of Van Hage a young entrepreneur who exported bulbs from Holland to the UK. He met Theadora and they were married in 1953. During the same year they opened a nursery on the site of a run down pig farm at Spitalbrook in Broxbourne. The Van Hage s saw the opportunity to create a garden centre with a difference from the experience they had gained. They purchased the famous rose nursery of Chaplin Brothers at Gt. Amwell . The garden centre was formally opened by Percy Thrower , the top national gardening celebrity of the 1970s. Leaving school at the age of 14, Lawrence Batley s worked in a solicitor solicitor s office, the insurance business, the Royal Air Force , and the pharmaceutical s business. His biggest contribution to business was when he founded Batley s Cash and Carry he was the first to use the phrase and the concept of cash and carry, and his idea became popular, bringing a whole new way of working to retailers across the UK. In later life Lawrence Batley sponsored the Lawrence Batley Seniors Tournament a veterans golf competition , the Lawrence Batley Stand at the Galpharm Stadium for its first 10 years, the Lawrence Batley Theatre and the National Arts Education Archive at Bretton Hall College now part of the University of Leeds . The business has now been taken over by his only child, Rita Firth.
