The SouthEnd Rowing Club , founded in 1873, is one of the oldest Sports club athletics clubs in the western United States . The boathouse, with a fleet of 30 boats, is located in San Francisco , California , at 500 Jefferson Street near Fisherman s Wharf, San Francisco Fisherman s Wharf , adjacent to the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park San Francisco Aquatic Park . The club supports participation in Rowing sport rowing , human swimming swimming , American handball handball , and running . It is open to the public from 10 am to 6 pm for a 6.50 fee on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Boats may be used by members only. Members of the public who are interested in learning to row can participate in monthly rowing clinics from March to November. A 25 donation is requested but not required, and clinics run for three hours on a weekend morning. The original boathouse was located near present day AT&T Park , at the southern end of San Francisco. The boathouse was moved by barge to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park Aquatic Park in the early 1900s, and to its present location in 1938. primarysources date December 2007 Notability date November 2007 The SouthEnd Art Hop , also known as the Art Hop , and Burlington Art Hop , is an annual event presented by the SouthEnd Arts and Business Association SEABA of Burlington, Vermont Burlington , Vermont . Artists join businesses, artist studios, and galleries, which in turn open their doors to the public throughout the post industrial section of Burlington, known as the SouthEnd . The principle behind the event is that of fusing culture and commerce, for which participating sites allow artists to showcase their work in non traditional settings offices, stores, restaurants, studios, etc. This promotes a mutually symbiotic relationship, by having businesses benefit from the increased foot traffic of art lovers, and artists benefit from exposure to customers who may not otherwise see their works in non traditional display environments. The first Art Hop in 1993 had a little less than thirty artists and a dozen sites participating. In 2008, over 600 artists showcased their works in over 100 sites throughout the SouthEnd of Burlington. The event takes place on the Friday and Saturday following Labor Day in September, and it receives extensive media coverage from local media outlets, such as The Burlington Free Press , WCAX Channel 3, and Weekly Tabloid Seven Days newspaper . West End is a neighborhood in Greenville, South Carolina . Located across the Reedy River in downtown, the end was where Furman University was first established in 1852 and expanded there until it moved to its current location northwest of the city in 1958. The first train of the Greenville and Columbia Railroad now part of Norfolk Southern arrived there in 1853. Following the American Civil War of 1861 65, the area became a cotton and fertilizer manufacturing hub. Chicora College was established in 1893 for women before relocating to Columbia, South Carolina Columbia 22 years. It merged with Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina in 1930. The area manufactured textile s and soft drink s and was part of automobile repair shops. Since the 1930s, it has become a office and commercial center along with being the arts and entertainment center of the city.
