The New Englander and Yale Review was an American magazine. History The journal began as The New Englander , and was founded at Yale College in 1843. It was printed in New Haven by W. L. Kingsley, and in the 1840s and 1850s it was edited by Edward Royall Tyler. At its origin it was published to support Evangelicalism , but over time began to publish more on history and economics. In 1885 it was renamed The New Englander and Yale Review , a title it bore until 1892, when it became The Yale Review . The American Historical Review , founded in 1895, took over the historical publications, and in 1911 the American Economic Association began publishing its American Economic Review , taking away the last substantial mission of the journal, its economic publications. After 1911, under the ownership of Wilbur Lucius Cross , the journal became a more general publication, and printed poetry and literary essays, besides topics of general interest. ref cite book last Trent first William Peterfield title The Cambridge history of American literature, Volume 3 year 1921 publisher G.P.
