Stereo Review was an American magazine first published in 1958 by Ziff Davis with the title HiFi and Music Review . It was one of a handful of magazines then available for the individual interested in high fidelity . Throughout its life it published a blend of record and equipment reviews, articles on music and musicians, and articles on technical issues and advice. The name changed to HiFi Review in 1959. It became HiFi Stereo Review in 1961 to reflect the growing use of stereophonic technology in recordings and broadcasts. In 1968 it became, simply, Stereo Review , reflecting the broad shift to stereophonic reproduction and simplifying the title. In the late 1980s, the magazine was acquired by CBS Magazines now Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. Hachette Filipacchi , and in 1989 it absorbed High Fidelity Magazine High Fidelity magazine. During the 1990s, consumer trends began to branch out into home cinema home theater matters and the magazine contents followed in kind. Finally, in 1999, the magazine was renamed Stereo Review s Sound & Vision and later simply Sound & Vision magazine Sound & Vision to reflect how dominant home theater had become in consumer purchases. One of the key features of the magazine was the permanence of its staff. Some staffers stayed for decades. One of them, Louise Boundas, rose from the ranks to become the magazine s editor from the late 1980s into the 90s. Another, Julian Hirsch , was known for his technical reviews of equipment he was involved with the magazine from 1961 until his retirement in 1998, nearly 40 years. Darlington Review Local monthly newspaper for Darlington, Western Australia . Possibly one of the longest lasting community newspapers of its sort in Western Australia , commenced in 1954. Which happened to coincide with the closing of the Eastern Railway Western Australia railway passenger service through Darlington. For a curious anecdote about the Darlington newspapers of 1954, one must read the history of Mundaring by Ken Spillman. In the early 1950s most issues had limited editorial comment, but would include gardening notes, petrol station roster times, and community notes. Most articles were very short and advertising was limited. Also there were welcome notes to new residents who were named. Earlier social gossip about Darlington was published in The Western Mail in the 1930s, but in the Review in the 1950s gossip was sparse. Various groups and associations put in brief articles. The Review had a preponderence of retired army Majors involved with gestetner produced editions, and the editors and logo changed fairly regularly until the long standing editorial position of Trea Wiltshire, being the current and longest serving editor for the Review. The Review has never been bettered for local information by outside newspapers from Mundaring, Western Australia or Midland, Western Australia , for coverage, despite letterboxing by the outsiders . The review has increased advertising, and substantially with technology. The Review is also one of the sponsors of the Darlington Arts Festival , and the Darlington Village website.
