Born at Newtown, Connamara, he was educated at Trinity College, Dublin from 1891 and was in 1902 ordained a minister of the Church of Ireland . He became Rector of Achonry in 1907 and afterwards obtained a post as lecturer in Celtic languages and literature at Queen s University, Belfast . A fluent Irish speaker, he translated works from Persian language Persian and Arabic , and is known especially for editing the work of Peadar Laoghaire . He became assistant director of Radio ireann shortly before his death. He is honorary research director at the Institut fran ais du p trole and a member of the French Academy of Science . Chauvin received his degree from the CPE Lyon Lyon School of Chemistry, Physics and Electronics in 1954. He was awarded the 2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry , along with Robert H. Grubbs and Richard R. Schrock , for his work from the early 1970s in the area of olefin metathesis .
