The secondary characters permanent residents, the hotel s manager, and members of the staff appear in both plays. London premiere Separate Tables had its premiere at the St James s Theatre in London in September 1954. It was originally intended that the main roles should be played by Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh , who had scored quite a success with Rattigan s The Sleeping Prince play The Sleeping Prince . 1. Trigonometric tables

Trigonometry In mathematics , tables of trigonometric function s are useful in a number of areas. Before the existence of pocket calculator s, trigonometric tables were essential for navigation , science and engineering . The calculation of mathematical table s was an important area of study, which led to the development of the history of computing first mechanical computing devices . Modern computers and pocket calculators now generate trigonometric function values on demand, using special libraries of mathematical code. Often, these libraries use pre calculated tables internally, and compute the required value by using an appropriate interpolation method. Interpolation of simple look up tables of trigonometric functions is still used in computer graphics , where only modest accuracy may be required and speed is often paramount. Another important application of trigonometric tables and generation schemes is for fast Fourier transform FFT algorithms, where the same trigonometric function values called twiddle factors must be evaluated many times in a given transform, especially in the common case where many transforms of the same size are computed. In this case, calling generic library routines every time is unacceptably slow. One option is to call the library routines once, to build up a table of those trigonometric values that will be needed, but this requires significant memory ... such interpolation is nontrivial, however and methods like Gal s accurate tables , Cody and Waite ..., the earliest method by which trigonometric tables were computed, and probably the most common ... on these identities are possible for example, some early trigonometric tables used not sine ... algorithm for generating sine tables because it has a significant error, proportional to 1 ..., but still imperfect, recurrence formula A simple recurrence formula to generate trigonometric tables ... Roman government The Law of the Twelve Tables Leges Duodecim Tabularum , or, informally, Duodecim Tabulae was the ancient legislation that stood at the foundation of Roman law . The Law of the Twelve Tables formed the centerpiece of the constitution of the Roman Republic and the core of the mos maiorum custom of the ancestors . The Twelve Tables must be distinguished from the unrelated and much older ancile twelve shields of King Numa Pompilius . History According to traditional, semilegendary historical accounts preserved in Livy , during the earliest period of the Republic, the laws were kept secret by the Pontifex Maximus pontifices and other representatives of the Patrician ancient Rome patrician class, and were enforced with untoward severity, especially against the plebeian class. A plebeian named Terentilius proposed in 462 BC that an official Code law legal code should be published, so the plebeians could not be surprised and would know the law. 1. Newcomb's Tables of the Sun

Newcomb s Tables of the Sun is the short title for a work by the United States American astronomer and mathematician Simon Newcomb entitled Tables of the Motion of the Earth on its Axis and Around the Sun on pages 1 169 of Tables of the Four Inner Planets 1895 , ref http books.google.com books?id j8MRAAAAYAAJ&pg PT6 Tables of the Four Inner Planets ref volume VI of the serial publication Astronomical Papers prepared for the use of the American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac . The work contains Newcomb s mathematical development of the position of the Earth in the Solar System , which is constructed from classical celestial mechanics as well as centuries of astronomical measurements. The bulk of the work, however, is a collection of tabulated precomputed values that provide the position of the sun at any point in time. Newcomb s Tables were the basis for practically all ephemerides of the Sun published from 1900 through 1983, including the annual almanacs of the U.S. Naval Observatory and the Royal Greenwich Observatory . The tables are seldom used now since the Astronomical Almanac for 1984 they have been superseded by more accurate numerically integrated ephemerides developed at Jet Propulsion Laboratory , based on much more accurate observations than were available to Newcomb. Also, the tables did not account for the effects of general relativity which was unknown at the time. Nevertheless, his tabulated values remain accurate to within a few seconds of arc to this day. Newcomb s work was no small accomplishment, especially considering that it predated the advent of digital computers by more than a half century. Emphasis is often placed on the tables themselves, rather than the underlying theory. The latter may turn out to be the more enduring work because the formulas he developed are still used in astronomical software and other computer algorithms. Newcomb developed similar formulas and tables for the other planets those of the inner planets have proved to be the most ...   more details
