  1. The Position

The Position A Novel ISBN 0 7432 6178 X is a 2005 novel by Meg Wolitzer . It tells the story of a book titled Pleasuring One Couple s Journey to Fulfillment and the effects it has on a family . The fictional book is a sex manual, much like The Joy of Sex . It was written by the parents and is full of detailed illustrations of them engaged in numerous sexual position s. One day while the parents are out, the children discover it and their lives are changed forever. The story looks at the effect the book has on their lives over the course of many decades, jumping forward decade by decade. For example, it looks at the effect it has on the child at 10, then when they are 20 and so on. The author tells the story by switching among the different points of view of the members of the family. The parents are unaware the children have discovered the book, so their story is very different from the children s. It also explores how each character feels about the others. For example, the husband thinks his wife is the most sexually desirable woman to him on the Earth and feels he is the luckiest man alive. On the other hand, she feels her husband is too mechanical when it comes to lovemaking, approaching it as some sort of scientific experiment. The author of the book, Meg Wolitzer, was a guest on National Public Radio NPR s program Fresh Air on May 10, 2005 discussing the book and her life as an author. 1. Position fixing

Unreferenced date December 2009 Position fixing is the branch of navigation concerned with the use of a variety of visual and Electronics electronic methods to determine the position of a ship , aircraft or person on the surface of the Earth . These techniques include Position line s and position circle s Celestial navigation Radio navigation Satellite navigation system Positions may be expressed as a bearing and range from a known landmark or as an angle s of latitude and longitude relative to a map datum . Generally speaking a position fix is calculated by taking into account measurements referred to as observations of distances or angles to reference points whose positions are known. In 2D surveys observations of three reference points are enough to compute a position in a two dimensional plane. In practice observations are subject to errors resulting from various physical and atmospheric factors that influence the measurement of distances and angles. A practical example of obtaining a position fix would be for a ship to make distance measurements to three lighthouse s positioned along the coast. These measurements could be made by using optical equipment or a time signal timing signal transmitted by radio . Since all physical observations are subject to errors the resulting position ... when combined. The area of doubt surrounding a position fix is called an error ellipse. To minimize this error, navigation systems generally use more than three reference points to compute a position ... the position fix becomes more accurate and the area of the resulting error ellipse decreases.
