A sculpture trail is, most often, a permanent series of large, outdoor sculptures located in a woodland or park parkland settings, with public walkways giving access to the sculptures. It is larger than a sculpture garden , and the sculptures may be sited out of sight of one another. There is often wheelchair access , and also a sculptor in residence creating new, temporary works. Artist is Fujiko Nakaya born 1938 Japan, daughter of Ukichiro Nakaya . The sculpture was made in 1976 and purchased in 1977. Gas sculpture is a proposal made by Joan Mir in his late writings to make sculpture out of gaseous materials. There is an example of pure water fog sculpture in the sculpture garden at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra . A large bank of very small nozzle s is arrayed on the edge of a small rush filled pond , and when the power is switched on a fine mist of fog billows out. The sculpture has a continuously changing shape as it is affected by the water, the rushes, and the air currents in the area. Some kinetic sculpture s contain gaseous elements, such as the fog nozzles of Jean Paul Riopelle s La Joute , which also includes fire jets, a fountain, and bronze sculptural elements. The idea of a gas sculpture also appeared in the book Gog , by Giovanni Papini 1881 1956 . The Children s Museum of Pittsburgh is planning a new park with a fog sculpture created by Ned Kahn. Set for completion in 2012, the sculpture will be a 30 by 30 foot grid of stainless steel poles outfitted with fog nozzles. Kahn said of the sculpture, When the fog is on, it will appear like a 20 foot diameter sphere of fog spinning inside the poles. Unreferenced date January 2008 Baroque sculpture is the sculpture associated with the Baroque cultural movement , a movement often identified with the existence of important Baroque art and Baroque architecture architecture in non absolutist and Protestant states. Course In Baroque sculpture, groups of figures assumed new importance, and there was a dynamic movement and energy of human forms&mdash they spiralled around an empty central vortex, or reached outwards into the surrounding space. For the first time, Baroque sculpture often had multiple ideal viewing angles. The characteristic Baroque sculpture added extra sculptural elements, for example, concealed lighting, or water fountains . Aleijadinho in Brazil was also one of the great names of baroque sculpture, and his master work is the set of statues of the Santu rio de Bom Jesus de Matosinhos in Congonhas . The soapstone sculptures of old testament prophets around the terrace are considered amongst his finest work. The architecture, sculpture and fountains of Gian Lorenzo Bernini Bernini 1598&ndash 1680 give highly charged characteristics of Baroque style. Bernini was undoubtedly the most important sculptor of the Baroque period. He approached Michelangelo Buonarroti Michelangelo in his omnicompetence Bernini sculpted, worked as an architect, painted, wrote plays, and staged spectacles. In the late 20th century Bernini was most valued for his sculpture, both for his virtuosity in carving marble and his ability to create figures that combine the physical and the spiritual. He was also a fine sculptor of bust portraits in high demand among the powerful. Bernini died in 1680 but his heritage was absorbed by sculptors painters and architects in their work in the first half of the 18th century particularly in Bavaria, France and Austria. Neoclassical sculpture was a Sculpture sculptural style of the 18th and 19th centuries. The Neoclassicism Neoclassical period c.1750 1850 was one of the great ages of public sculpture, though its classical prototypes were more likely to be Roman copies of Hellenistic sculptures. The neoclassical sculptors paid homage to an idea of the generation of Pheidias , but the sculpture examples they actually embraced were more likely to be Roman copies of Hellenistic sculptures. They ignored both Archaic Greek art and the works of Late Antiquity. The most familiar representatives are the Italian Antonio Canova , the Englishman John Flaxman and the Dane Bertel Thorvaldsen . The European neoclassical manner also took hold in the United States, where its pinnacle occurred somewhat later and is exemplified in the sculptures of Hiram Powers , Randolph Rogers , William Henry Rinehart and others. gallery File Nydia 3, Randolph Rogers.jpg Randolph Rogers , The Last Days of Pompeii Nydia, the Blind Flower Girl of Pompeii , 1856 File Gan medes Jos lvarez Cubero MRABASF 01.jpg Jos lvarez Cubero Ganymede mythology Ganymede , 1804 gallery commonscat Neoclassical sculptures Category Neoclassical sculpture ... more details

The predominant garden types in the ancient world were domestic gardens and sacred gardens. Sculpture of gods and kings were placed in temple compounds, along with sacred lakes and sacred groves. It is not known whether statues were placed in Greek domestic gardens but the Romans transported a great many statues to Italy and placed them in gardens for ornamental reasons. When the Roman Empire became Christian these statues were regarded as pagan and removed from sight. During the renaissance these same statues were excavated and re placed in gardens. Sculpture then became an aspect of art and gardens have been a favoured location for displaying outdoor works of art. Image armature sculpture.png thumb 150px right Armature for a classical pose of a figure holding a lyre. In sculpture , an armature is a framework around which the sculpture is built. This framework provides structure and stability, especially when a plastic material such as wax or clay is being used as the medium. When sculpting the human figure, the armature is analogous to the major skeleton and has essentially the same purpose to hold the body erect. An armature is often made of heavy, dark aluminium wire which is stiff, but can be bent and twisted into shape without much difficulty. The wire is affixed to a base which is usually made of wood. The artist then begins fleshing out the sculpture by adding wax or clay over the wire. Depending on the material and technique, the armature may be left buried within the sculpture but, if the sculpture is to be hollowed out for Kiln firing , it must ref 1 1 be removed. Large representational sculptures meant for outdoor display are typically fashioned of bronze or other types of sheet metal, and they require armatures for internal support and stability. For example, a large armature designed by Gustave Eiffel holds up the Statue of Liberty . The armature can be seen from below by visitors to the base of the sculpture s interior. An armature used in stop motion animation is an Joint articulated metal, wire or even wooden figure covered with material to build the character, but can be made to hold poses for extended periods of time.
