ScottishSwimming , also known as the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association SASA , is the national Sport governing body governing body for swimming sport swimming , diving , water polo and synchronised swimming in Scotland . The SASA and the English and Welsh swimming associations form British Swimming organisation British Swimming , which is responsible for British teams at the Olympics, and other events in which the United Kingdom sends a combined team. Founded in 1888, the SASA was incorporated as a limited company in 2003. It comprises four districts North, Midlands, East and West and has 160 affiliated swimming clubs across the country. It is based at the National Swimming Academy on the campus of the University of Stirling . FOR Swimming is a non profit organization formed in 2004 for the purpose of fostering charitable causes and providing support, educational opportunities, and benefits for youth, high school, and adult swim teams, as well as providing fitness training and aquatic therapy for all Rockbridge County citizens. The Air supported structure Asati dome is highly translucent and requires no lighting during daytime hours with an added thermaliner to reduce heating costs. A chair lift was installed to give the physically challenged easy access to the water. In addition, an adjacent pool house was built complete with locker rooms, showers, office, team room, pump room and storage for pool and swimming equipment. The project was funded by FOR Swimming s Raise the Roof Campaign supported by donations from individuals, families, and businesses. The community pool is actively used by swimmers of all ages and abilities. It is an LSC member of USA Swimming and the Eastern Zone. Most of the athletes who compete in Metro sponsored swim meets are youths under the age of 18. However, there are also opportunities for older members of the swimming community to compete. Location Metro is one of the 59 sub divided areas by the National Governing Board, which is USA Swimming. Paralympic swimming is contested not only at the Swimming at the Summer Paralympics Summer Paralympic Games , but at disabled sports competitions throughout the world. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee , hence the name of Paralympic swimming. Rules for the sport are adapted from those set forth by the International Swimming Federation FINA . The majority of rules for Paralympic swimming are the same as those for able bodied competitions. Significant differences include the starting position and adaptations allowed for visually impaired swimmers. Competitors may start a race by standing on a platform and diving into the pool, as in able bodied swimming, or by sitting on the platform and diving in, or they may start the race in the water. In events for the blind and visually impaired, people called tappers stand at the end of the pool and use a pole to tap the swimmers when they approach the wall, indicating when the swimmer should turn or end the race.
