Fran ois Joseph Westermann September 5, 1751&mdash April 5, 1794 was a France French general of the French Revolutionary Wars Revolutionary Wars and political figure of the French Revolution . Biography Career Born in Molsheim Bas Rhin , Fran ois Joseph Westermann entered a cavalry regiment at an early age but soon left the service and went to Paris . He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Revolution, and in 1790 became Secretary greffier of the municipality of Haguenau . After a short imprisonment on a charge of inciting riots in Haguenau, he returned to Paris, where he joined Georges Danton and played an important part in the 10th of August French Revolution attack on the Tuileries on August 10, 1792. He accompanied Charles Fran ois Dumouriez on his campaigns with the French Revolutionary Army Army of the North , and assisted him in his negotiations with the Habsburg Monarchy Habsburgs , being arrested as an accomplice after the general s defection. Denounced by Jean Paul Marat to the National Convention , Westermann succeeded in proving his innocence, and was sent with the rank of Brigadier General to quell the Revolt in the Vend e . Vend e and downfall Westermann distinguished himself by his extraordinary courage, daring maneuvers, and severe treatment of the insurgents. After suffering a First Battle of Ch tillon defeat at Ch tillon , he defeated the Vend ens at Beaupr au , Laval Roquecezi re Laval , Granville, Manche Granville , and Baug , and in December 1793 annihilated their army at Le Mans and Savenay . In a controversial document, the authenticity of which is disputed, Westermann supposedly wrote to the Committee of Public Safety There is no more Vend e , Republican citizens. Unreferenced date March 2007 The Route nationale 165 is a highway in western France. It connects the towns of Brest and Nantes. It is also numbered European Route 60 . The majority of the route is Autoroutes of France autoroute standard. Route The road commences at Brest, France Brest docks passing the visitor attractions Oceanopolis and Botanical Gardens. Thereafter the road turns south crossing the River Elom on a modern bridge the Pont de l Iroise. The older Pont A. Louppe now closed to vehicular traffic lies on the seaward side. The road passes the town of Plougastel Daoulas and alongside the coast a series of submerged valleys in the Parc Naturale D Armorique . The road passes the town of Ch teaulin and a junction with the Route nationale 164 N164 to Rennes and the Route nationale 12 N12 . The former route taken by the N165 is now numbered by the RD770. The road enters the town of Quimper, Finist re Quimper crossing the river Odet. The road now forms the towns eastern by pass. The road continues south east with the old road now the RD783 to the south and after the town of Quimperl it becomes the RD765 where the road crosses the River La ta. The road passes the Airport of Lann Bihou and forms the northern by pass for Lorient over the Rivers Scorff and Blavet past Hennebont and a junction with the Route nationale 24 N24 to Rennes. The old road continues as the RD765 through the town centre of Lorient and Hennebont rejoining the new road after Land vant . The road continues south east to the town of Vannes on the northern shore of the Gulf of Morbihan . There is a junction with the Route nationale 166 N166 . The old road is again numbered the RD765 passing through villages now by passed by the new road. The road by passes the town of Muzillac and crosses the river Vilaine passing the town of La Roche Bernard. The former road is hereafter numbered the RD965.
