orphan date September 2009 Located in a lush agricultural section of southern littoral of Lebanon , Tell el Burak has been under investigation by the American University of Beirut and the University of T bingen since 1998. The excavations have revealed three occupations on the tell, the latest in the Ottoman Empire Ottoman Period , the next in the Iron Age , and the earliest in the Middle Bronze Age . During this earliest stage the mound was built as part of a defensive structure serving as the base for a fortress on its top. In the Iron Age , Tell el Burak was home to a settlement that was prosperous and peaceful, as seen in its defenseless and fine architecture. There is no apparent occupation in the intervening Late Bronze Age as the site was seemingly abandoned in favor of Sarepta , four kilometers to the south. The tell stands prominently amidst agricultural lands on a strip of plain fronted by the Mediterranean Sea and backed by a range of hills. The plain, a well watered zone, is home to a large agricultural area where fruit trees currently predominate. The conical purpose built tell towers above the plain to some 19 meters and is readily visible from both land and sea. From the top of mound, Sidon can be seen to the north, and to the south rising above Ras el Qantara , the tell of the Late Bronze Age Phoenician city of Sarepta can be seen. In 2004 an underwater archaeological survey was conducted in the area of the tell by the archaeologist Ralph K. Pedersen http sites.google.com site wedigboats home . The Aurelian is a short story first written in Russian as Pil gram by Vladimir Nabokov during his exile in Berlin in 1930. After translation by Nabokov and Peter Pertzov it was published in English in the Atlantic Monthly in 1941. The Aurelian is included in Nine Stories Nabokov Nine Stories and Nabokov s Dozen . Plot summary The Aurelian entomology aurelian is Paul Pilgram, an entomologist and butterfly dealer who never left his native Berlin. His life is empty and dreary, his business dismal, and his marriage perfunctory. His dream has been to venture out on a collecting trip abroad, but lack of resources or interfering circumstances never allowed this to happen. In this case, Pilgram is a dreamer and lives in his inner world, and is eventually overwhelmed by his obsession. Pilgram s journey takes him from his pupa like condition to a golden, aurelian threshold before he enters into a different state as he undergoes his metamorphosis . The Fifth Mountain by Paulo Coelho was published in 1996 and was his fourth major publication. The story is based on the story of Elijah from the Hebrew The Bible Bible 1 Books of Kings Kings chapters 17 19 . The focus is on Elijah s time in Sarepta Zarephath in this book named Akbar . Much has been added to the simple Bible story by Coelho, including Elijah witnessing the sacking of Akbar by the Assyria ns, Elijah s journey up the Fifth Mountain itself said to be the dwelling place of Baal , and Elijah s falling in love with the widow to whom God sent him. This story may be considered religious in focus, despite a strong focus on the theme of rebellion against God. In this book, Coelho has explored the manner in which the prophetic questioning of authority, rebellion and liberty liberation , and thinking for oneself are important in one s relationship with God and one s life work. At the same time the novel is a powerful metaphor of human self confidence and strong desire for self fulfillment by helping other humans. The protagonist finds ultimately the strength to overcome all misfortunes in himself in his deeply human desire to help the others and to be creative. And he finds out that God is in his own heart. Plot summary For a considerable portion of the story Elijah is very compliant, obeying everything God s angels say. Eventually he realizes that his destiny is not being chosen by him but by God and ultimately, he decides to abide by his own desires and will. In this way Coelho suggests that Elijah was able to reach an ultimate level of spiritual awareness and have the most powerful relationship with God. 1990s novel stub Paulo Coelho DEFAULTSORT Fifth Mountain, The Category 1996 novels Category Novels by Paulo Coelho Category Brazilian novels Category Portuguese language novels ar de Der f nfte Berg es La quinta monta a fr La Cinqui me Montagne it Monte Cinque ka pl Pi ta G ra pt O Monte Cinco ru tr Be inci Da ... more details
