He was a representative to the Congress of Tucum n which on 9 July 1816 Argentine Declaration of Independence declared the Independence of Argentina . Maza was born in Mendoza, Argentina Mendoza and studied there, then received his doctorate in jurisprudence at the Universidad de Chile university Royal University of San Felipe , Chile . He worked in Mendoza until the events of the May Revolution in 1810. In 1815 Maza was elected to the Cabildo council Cabildo of Mendoza and actively assisted Jos de San Mart n . He was elected by Mendoza to the San Miguel de Tucum n Tucum n Congress and served in 1816 for the declaration. After the Congress moved to Buenos Aires, he served as president of the body in November 1817. He resigned his mandate in 1818 and returned to his hometown to teach. In 1830, Videla Castillo was sent by Jos Mar a Paz General Paz to take charge of the government. Roland de la Maza born November 11, 1971 in Granada Hills, Los Angeles, California is a former Major League Baseball player who played one game for the Kansas City Royals in 1997. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 15th round of the 1993 amateur draft. On August 30, 1997 he was traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Kansas City Royals for Bip Roberts . Michael De La Maza began playing chess competitively in July 1999, and by July 2001 had improved such that his provisional Elo rating system chess rating had risen from 1164, beginner level, to 2041, expert level. In his last tournament he won the Under 2000 section of the World Open and has not played a rated game since. After the tournament, he wrote a two part article entitled 400 points in 400 days for the Chess Cafe web site, which became the basis for the book Rapid Chess Improvement ISBN 1 85744 269 5 . The article and book are about his methods of improvement, which involves working through a large set of chess puzzles multiple times until they can be solved very quickly. This book and its lessons have generated much interest among improving chess players. An interwoven group of blogs dedicated to using his method have dubbed themselves The Knights Errant . There are many critics of De La Maza s training methods and of his harsh criticism of chess teachers that emphasize positional concepts.
