July 1947 Rudi Blesh January 21, 1899, Guthrie, Oklahoma &mdash August 25, 1985, Gilmanton, New Hampshire was an American jazz critic and enthusiast. Blesh studied at Dartmouth College and held jobs writing jazz reviews for the San Francisco Chronicle and the New York Herald Tribune in the 1940s. He was a prolific promoter of jazz concerts, particularly New Orleans jazz , and hosted a jazz radio program, This Is Jazz , in 1947. These shows have been reissued by Jazzology Records. Blesh published the first major scholarly work on ragtime music, They All Played Ragtime , with Harriet Janis in 1950, which sparked a ragtime revival. He founded Circle Records in 1946, which recorded new material from aging early jazz musicians as well as the Library of Congress recordings of Jelly Roll Morton . He sparked renewed interest in the music of Joseph Lamb , James P. Johnson , and Eubie Blake , among others. Blesh held professorships at several universities later in his life, and wrote liner notes to jazz albums almost up until the time of his death. In 1976, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for his liner notes to Joplin The Complete Works of Scott Joplin performed by Dick Hyman .     Rudi Supek Zagreb , 8 April 1913 Zagreb, 2 January 1993 was a Croatian sociologist and a member of the Praxis School of Marxism. Supek studied philosophy in Zagreb and graduated in 1937. He went to study clinical psychology in Paris , where he was when World War II erupted. He joined the resistance movement, but soon was captured and deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp, where he took part in the Buchenwald Resistance . After the liberation, Supek went back to Paris to continue living and studying there. In 1948, after the Informbiro Resolution against Josip Broz Tito s Yugoslavia, the leader of the French Communists Maurice Thorez asked Supek, who was member of the French Communist Party , to attack Titoism . Supek refused to comply and returned to Yugoslavia. However, he did not become a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia . Supek earned his PhD from Sorbonne in 1952 and started to work as a Professor at the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy, Zagreb Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy and at the Institute of Social Researches in Zagreb. He founded the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy in 1963. Supek became the first president of the Yugoslav Society of Psychologists and for a period he was the president of the Yugoslav Society of Sociologists.
