A bill for Marriages in England&action purge year 1836 publisher The Stationers Office location London ref Since the Marriage Act 1753 , the only legally recognized marriages in Britain with the exception of Jews and Quakers were those performed in a parish church by a clergyman of the Church of England . This meant that Roman Catholic s and members of other dissenting congregations, as also atheists, Muslims, Hindus or members of any other religious body, had be married according to the Anglican rites and ceremonies which they did not support, and by a priest whom they believed had no authority. If they did not do so, they had no legal rights as married people or as husband and wife. Roman Catholic priests often recommended that their parishioners be married in the Roman Church but then have their marriage legalized in a Anglican parish church. When asked why he recommended this, one priest declared glomily that almost every day the wife of an Irish labourer was deserted by her husband and could get no redress. ref name Chadwick The Marriage Act of 1836 remedied this situation as far as Christian s belonging to non Anglican churches were concerned. IV, c.71 was an Act of Parliament Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom with the long title An Act for the Commutation of Tithes in England and Wales . It replaced the ancient system of payment of tithe s in kind with monetary payments. It is especially noted for the maps which were produced as a side effect of the valuation process which the change entailed. Tithe payments Tithes were originally paid as one tenth of the produce of the land crops, eggs, cattle, timber, fishing, etc. to the rector as alms and for payment for his services. The tithes were often stored in a tithe barn attached to the parish. After the dissolution of the monasteries some of the land in question, having passed out of church ownership, had tithes paid to private landlords. Enclosure acts made further modifications in the pattern, either by abolishing tithe payments entirely or replacing them with monetary payments. Various other arrangements also replaced payment in kind, though not systematically. By the time of the Act there was considerable discontent over payment of tithes, most notably in the form of the Tithe War of 1831 1836 in Ireland . 1. Registration of Political Parties Act 1998

The Registration of Political Parties Act 1998 1998 c. 48 , or An Act to make provision about the registration of political parties was an act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom to set up a register of political parties in the United Kingdom . Previously there had been no such register, and political parties were not specially recognised. There are currently 342 political parties registered in the UK. The legislation was introduced for a variety of reasons. It was planned to introduce some elements of list based proportional representation in elections to the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly , and for that, political parties needed to have a stronger legal recognition. Additionally, various pieces of legislation needed to refer to parties and so were using ad hoc definitions, which might have been incompatible. Another motivation was the use of the terms Literal Democrats the Conversative Party and the Labur Party by people in elections in the 1990s. The use of the name Literal Democrats was condemned as potentially confusing with the Liberal Democrats UK Liberal Democrats . In the European Parliament Election, 1994 UK 1994 European Elections , Richard Huggett stood as a Literal Democrat candidate for Devon and East Plymouth European Parliament constituency Devon and East Plymouth , causing the real Liberal Democrats UK Liberal Democrats to lose to the Conservative Party UK Conservative Party in that seat. ref http thescotsman.scotsman.com index.cfm?id 172702005 The Scotsman ... text of the Act UK SLD 1457074 the Registration of Political Parties Act 1998 UK legislation DEFAULTSORT Registration Of Political Parties Act 1998 Category Political parties in the United Kingdom Category ... . It was enacted as part of the Federal Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 .
