  1. West Africa Regional Rail Integration

The West Africa Regional Rail Integration is a proposal to connect up isolated railway networks in West Africa. Overview In 2009, USTDA approved funding of 750,000 for a feasibility study grant to assist the Union conomique et Mon taire Ouest Africaine UEMOA , in determining the technical and economic viability of developing a rail line from Bamako , Mali to Mali s southeastern border with C te d Ivoire , as well as its associated costs, design and construction criteria, and implementation plan. The study will also include a technical assessment on the existing rail line between Dakar , Senegal and Bamako, which would be linked to the proposed rail line. The total cost of the proposed line is expected to exceed 1.9 billion. The 15 month railway study USTDA contract was authorized to begin in October of 2010. ZETA TECH of Cherry Hill NJ is undertaking the study with other companies assisting. Gauge The railways in Senegal , Mali , C te d Ivoire , Burkina Faso , Benin and Togo are all metre gauge . However Ghana and Nigeria are cape gauge with possible conversion to standard gauge . The choice of gauge for the new network is therefore is still being examined by multiple parties as of the summer of 2010. Some studies calling for standard gauge go back to the year 2001. 1. Motivic integration

Motivic integration is a branch of algebraic geometry which was invented by Maxim Kontsevich in 1995 and was developed by Jan Denef and Fran ois Loeser . Since its introduction it has proved to be quite useful in various branches of algebraic geometry , most notably birational geometry and singularity theory . Roughly speaking, motivic integration assigns to subsets of the arc space of an algebraic geometry a volume living in the Grothendieck group Grothendieck ring of algebraic variety algebraic varieties . The naming motivic mirrors the fact that unlike ordinary integral integration , for which the values are real numbers , in motivic integration the values are geometric in nature. 1. Leapfrog integration

Leapfrog integration is a simple method for integrating differential equation s, particularly in the case of a dynamical system . The method is known by different names in different disciplines. In particular, it is similar to the Velocity Verlet method, which is a variant of Verlet integration . Leapfrog integration is equivalent to calculating positions and velocities at interleaved time points, interleaved in such a way that they leapfrog over each other. For example, the position is known at integer time steps and the velocity is known at integer plus half time steps. Leapfrog integration is a second order method and hence usually works better than Euler integration , which is only first order. Unlike Euler integration, it is stable for oscillatory motion, as long as the time step, math Delta t 1 omega math ref http www.cmth.ph.ic.ac.uk people a.mackinnon Lectures compphys node10.html The Leap Frog Method ref . 1. Horizontal integration

refimprove date March 2009 File Integration in English.svg 250px thumb right A diagram illustrating horizontal integration and contrasting it with vertical integration. Marketing In microeconomics and strategic management , the term horizontal integration describes a type of ownership and control. It is a strategy used by a business or corporation that seeks to sell a type of Product business product in numerous market s. Horizontal integration in marketing is much more common than vertical integration is in production. Horizontal integration occurs when a firm is being taken over by, or merged with, another firm which is in the same industry and in the same stage of production as the merged firm, e.g. a car manufacturer merging with another car manufacturer. In this case both the companies are in the same stage of production and also in the same industry. This process is also known as a buy out or take over . The goal of Horizontal integration is to consolidate like companies and monopolize an industry. A monopoly created through horizontal integration is called a horizontal monopoly . A term that is closely related with horizontal integration is horizontal expansion . This is the expansion of a firm within an industry in which it is already active for the purpose of increasing its share of the market for a particular product or service. Multiple issues wikify November 2010 orphan November 2010 unreferenced November 2010 dicdef An Integration warehouse is a data warehouse specifically geared to the purpose of integrating information from various sources or systems. Integration warehouses are quite often used in the reinsurance industry instead of conventional data warehouses. History The concept of integration warehousing dates back to mid 2000. In the reinsurance industry it became quite obvious, that data warehouses don t cover all the business requirements and therefore IT started to focus more on the integration aspects. This finally led to solutions that now specifically fit the reinsurance business requirements. Architecture The IW architecture is quite similar as the data warehouse architecture. The main difference is really in the integration aspect and the overall data model which is based on a holistic reinsurance business model. Advantages It is said that load performance of Integration Warehouses can be nearly real time, as opposed to Data Warehouses which can be slower.
