The Tanakh is the Hebrew Bible and Qumran is an archaeological site near the Dead Sea . More than two hundred portions of the Tanakh have been found near Qumran , forming part of the Dead Sea Scrolls . The scrolls were found in a The Qumran Caves series of caves , which have since been numbered, and these numbers used in the reference name of each scroll portion. For example 4Q108 is a fragment of a scroll from Cave 4, it is the 108th listed manuscript from that cave. More than half of the Tanakh portions from Qumran are from Cave 4. The Dead Sea Scrolls in general are Hebrew language manuscripts, written in Hebrew alphabet Assyrian Block script 90 95 . Some, however, were written in the Paleo Hebrew alphabet . A few biblical manuscripts were written in Greek language Greek uncial script and appear to be copies of the Septuagint text. Nearly all the scrolls were written on vellum , however there are a few papyrus papyri . Although not a biblical text, one scroll Copper Scroll 3Q15 was actually inscribed on copper. ref Orion Center for the Study of the Dead Sea Scrolls http orion.mscc.huji.ac.il ... 4Q107 or 4QCant sup b sup is a fragment of the Song of Songs in Hebrew found in Cave 4 at Qumran in the West Bank and which comprises part of the Dead Sea Scrolls . From the palaeography script on the fragment it has been identified as being early Herod the Great Herodian , i.e. c.30 31 BCE . The scribe responsible for 4Q107 did not write 4Q108 as there are differences in writing style. Also, the Lacuna manuscripts lacuna in the second column of 4Q107 does not provide enough space to accommodate 4Q108. The fragments which make up the Song of Songs found at Qumran are called 4Q106 , 4Q107, 4Q108 , and 6Q6 . The scroll 4Q240 is possibly a commentary on the Song of Songs . The Yahad Ostracon is a controversial ostracon text bearing potsherd that was found at the ruins of Qumran in 1996. The editors who published the text claimed that it contained the Hebrew word Yahad . This word is also used in a number of the Dead Sea Scrolls , where it has usually been translated as community , and is generally taken to be a self reference to the group responsible for the scrolls in which it appears and, by extension, the corpus as a whole . The presence of this unusual term in both the scrolls found in the nearby caves and on the ostracon found at the ruins themselves would connect the scrolls to the settlement at Qumran. The Ostracon James F. Strange of the University of South Florida led an excavation which examined an area just outside the eastern wall of the settlement.
