  1. Mo Chhu

Mo Chhu is a major river in Bhutan . The word Chhu means river or water in Dzongkha , the official national language in Bhutan. The river rises in Gasa District Gasa Dzongkhag district near the border between Bhutan and Tibet. From there, the Mo Chhu flows generally southward to Punakha in central Bhutan, where it joins the Pho Chhu from the northeast. The confluence of the two streams is immediately below the Punakha Dzong , which is the winter home of the Dratshang Lhentshog Central Monk Body and the Je Khenpo . The combined streams are then joined by the Dang Chhu near the town of Wangdue Phodrang , and the name of the river becomes the Puna Tsang Chhu . The river then flows through Dagana District Dagana and Tsirang District s. After leaving Bhutan near the town of Kalikhola , the river enters Assam in India and is known as the Sankosh . The Sankosh ultimately empties into the Brahmaputra . 1. Sankosh River

Sankosh is a river that rises in northern Bhutan and empties into the Brahmaputra in the state of Assam in India . In Bhutan, it is known as the Puna Tsang Chu below the confluences of several tributaries near the town of Wangdue Phodrang . The two largest tributaries are the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu , which flow together at Punakha . The Punakha dzong, which is situated immediately above the confluence of the two rivers, is one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan and the winter residence of the Central Monk Body . The upper reaches of the Pho Chhu are susceptible to ice blockages, and the dzong has been damaged on several occasions by glacial outburst floods GLOF . At Wangdue Phodrang, altitude 1364 m , the river is joined by the west flowing Dang Chhu and it enters a precipitous gorge. The highway running south from Wangdue Phodrang to Dagana follows the river for much of its course. Near the town of Takshay is the confluence with the west flowing Hara Chhu . The last major Bhutanese tributary is the Daga Chhu . 1. Nalanda Buddhist Institute

cleanup date January 2009 Image Nalanda view from Dochu La.JPG thumb 300px Nalanda view from Dochu La Nalanda Buddhist Institute is located in Punakha District Punakha Dzongkhag District of the Kingdom of Bhutan , below Talo village and above Walakha . It is about 20 mins drive from the main highway to Punakha , before reaching Kuruthang from the Metsina junction. Image Principal Tshewang.JPG thumb 300px Principal Sonam Tshewang The Founding of Nalanda also known locally as Daley Goenpa or Dalida In 1754, Gelwang Shaja Rinchen Rinpoche , who was the reincarnation of Rechungpa , founded the monastery of Nalanda here below Talo, the place of a holy person , as the Mind Reincarnations of the first Shabdrung preferred to stay there when he was governing from Punakha Dzong. He built it as the second Nalanda, the first being in India, in the state of Bihar. Nalanda university is very holy and many Bhutanese tried to visit this very holy university at least once in their lives. But in Bhutan, there were very few roads and so it was very difficult to get to India, and even when they got there, they faced many obstacles including culture, food, language and were at risk at getting robbed. So he built this second Nalanda in Bhutan. Shaja Rinchen Rinpoche chose this site after seeing a number of auspicious signs. The main monk body has a tradition of spending the winter months in Punakha Dzong, and the summer months in Thimphu. Once whilst travelling for the winter, he saw eight vultures flying to this spot, which he thought were the eight scholars of the original Nalanda Buddhist Institute in India. And this was confirmed when they appeared to him in a dream and gave a teaching to him, so he came to the place and saw more good signs. During the construction of the original temple, he saw eight Indians in a valley adjacent to the site see story of the Eight Disappearing Indians The first monastery was a single storey, and after some time, Jambayshinyen, His Holiness the Je Khe ...   more details

coord 28 0 N 90 0 E display title Image BhutanGasa.png thumb 350px Location of Gasa dzongkhag within Bhutan Gasa District Dzongkha Wylie transliteration Wylie Mgar sa rdzong khag is one of the 20 dzongkhag s districts comprising Bhutan . Its capital is Gasa Dzong near Gasa, Bhutan Gasa . It is located in the far north of the county and spans the Middle and High Himalayas . It is the least developed of all the dzongkhags. It is also the largest, least populated and least densely populated of all 20 districts, with an area of 4,561 km and a population of 3,116 census of population 2005 although it has become a tourist destination because of its pristine forests and the exceptionally scenic location of its Dzong. In 2008 a massive flood on the Mo Chhu Female River destroyed a popular hot spring complex, which is under restoration and may re open in late 2011. The high altitude makes farming difficult, although government programs seek to establish Mustard plant mustard and summer vegetable planting programs. Residents herd yak s and dzo s, and a small number benefit from the nascent tourism industry. A narrow dirt road was completed in December of 2010, making it possible to hike to the Dzong in less than two hours. The majority of the known herds of wild Takin occur in Gasa. Electricity is also being supplied to some of the geogs and all electrification programmes are expected to be complete by 2012. Gasa is most famous for its Layap people, and for the Snowman Trek , one of the most challenging treks in the Himalayas. Geography Gasa is bordered to the north by Tibet Autonomous Region of the People s Republic of China and by Thimphu District Thimphu , Punakha District Punakha , and Wangdue Phodrang District Wangdue Phodrang dzongkhags to the south.
