For other uses of publicaffairspublicaffairs disambiguation Unreferenced date November 2006 Publicaffairs , a broadcastingbroadcasting industry term, refers to programming which focuses on matters of politics and public policy . Among commercial broadcasters, such programs are often only to satisfy regulatory expectations, and hence are scheduled in graveyard slot s at times when few listeners or viewers are tuned in or even awake in United States U.S. broadcasting, a particularly favored time slot for this type of show is a 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. Sunday morning time slot. At some particularly national broadcasters, PublicAffairs may be a special unit, separate from the news department, dedicated to producing long form publicaffairs programming, as at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation prior to 1992. We in America have an appetite for excellence, too. While we work every day to produce new goods and to create new wealth, we want most of all to enrich man s spirit. That is the purpose of this act. ref http www.cpb.org aboutpb act remarks.html Remarks of President Lyndon B. Multiple issues orphan November 2010 unreferenced november 2010 The Better PublicBroadcasting Association was organized in 1995 in Clinton, Oklahoma by a group of local radio broadcasters concerned about how local radio responded to emergency situations. This was precipitated by the Oklahoma City Bombing and the response of the Oklahoma News Network and its service to its affiliates in covering the disaster. BPBA founders Dennis Burton and Jim Turvaville felt that the reaction to a Tragedy event tragedy such as the Oklahoma City Bombing was such that regional or local emergency response by broadcast facilities would not help the listening public. They began an association intended to bring some sense of local ownership to the airwaves and disseminate useful and meaningful information to the public, not only in the event of a real emergency but on a day by day and hour by hour basis to their service area. The Better PublicBroadcasting Association, Inc. was incorporated in the state of Oklahoma in 2006 and participated in the Non commercial educational broadcasting filing window of 2007 as designated by the Federal Communications Commission to start serving small communities with true local radio programming and public service.
