He earned his Bachelor of Arts B.A. degree in 1965 at Morgan State University , his Masters in Theology M.Th. degree in 1970 at the Boston University School of Theology, and his Doctor of Ministry D.Min. degree at the Colgate Rochester Divinity School in 1975. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of his high school, Baltimore City College . Bishop Bryant is the father of Jamal Harrison Bryant Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant , pastor and founder of the Empowerment Temple AME Church in Baltimore, Maryland , and Dr. Thema Simone Bryant Davis. Connections to Pentecostalism Bishop Bryant and his wife, Reverend Dr. Cecilia Williams Bryant, garnered a reputation for turning St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts into what people called a rocking church because of their support of Pentecostal religious practices. When assigned to Bethel A.M.E. Church in Baltimore, Maryland in 1975, the congregation grew to over several thousand members. Again, the Bryants brought to Bethel a sense of Pentecostalism and 14 percent of the congregation reported that they regularly practiced glossalalia or speaking in tongues and 59 percent reported that they had the gifts of prophecy and or divine healing . Because of all this, Bishop Bryant is considered the father of Neo Pentecostalism. References references http www.fourthdistr ... more details
The Shearer Schoolhouse Revival was a religious phenomenon that occurred during a series of meetings conducted in the summer of 1896 in Cherokee County, North Carolina Cherokee County , North Carolina , United States . The revival was characterized by what participants believed to be the biblical experience of Glossolalia speaking in tongues . The group that hosted these worship gatherings eventually became known as the Church of God Cleveland . This event predated the Azusa Street Revival 1906 , which is generally held to be the event that started the Pentecostalism Pentecostal Movement in the United States. This suggests the Azusa Revival can be seen as one of several similar religious phenomena happening at the same time. There is no doubt, however, that Azusa had a greater impact and is more widely known.
