  1. Parlour boarder

Multiple issues unreferenced January 2008 original research January 2008 cleanup January 2008 A parlour boarder was a special category of lodger in 18th & 19th century England who lived permanently with another family, ate at their family table, but in addition had the use of a personal sitting room&mdash the parlour . The term also applied to a special category of boarder at a boarding school , normally the child of deceased or wealthy parents, put in the charge of the headmistress of the school and, while attending classes with the rest, was nevertheless treated as a cut above the other students, possibly even having a servant to attend her. Frequently the parlour boarder had a rich guardian, or a fortune in the hands of trustees left for the education and maintenance of the child. Parlour boarders were often the children of wealthy widows or widowers who could not cope or simply did not want to look after the child themselves, or their guardians might be stationed in some capacity abroad, where a young child could not safely accompany them. His 2005 release on the Cooking Vinyl label was a literally homemade album. Thompson s aim was to create an album that sounded small and intimate. Front Parlour Ballads has been hailed as his first solo, all acoustic album since 1981 but strictly speaking it s neither of those things percussionist Debra Dobkin plays on two tracks, Let It Blow and My Soul, My Soul and Thompson himself adds electric guitar to the same two tracks. Thompson had a small studio built in his garage at home and recorded the tracks onto his Laptop laptop computer , adding overdubs as he deemed necessary. Even Dobkin s contributions were recorded in the same way. Thompson did not expect to sell many copies of Front Parlour Ballads . The critics, as usual, acclaimed the new release, but rather more surprising were strong early sales in both the U.S. and Britain, and Front Parlour Ballads debuted in the Indie music indie charts on both sides of the atlantic. 1. Beauty parlour syndrome

cleanup date September 2009 Mergeto Vertebrobasilar insufficiency date August 2009 Beauty parlour syndrome BPS , sometimes referred to as Vertebrobasilar insufficiency , is when the neck is overextended back into a sink during hairwashing, damaging the blood vessels in the neck and disrupting the blood flow to the brain, resulting in a potential stroke . Though uncommon and thought to affect only people with already weakened neck arteries, the syndrome has been at the centre of a debate in several recent stroke deaths. BPS was first reported in the early 1990s when an American neurologist identified five patients who suffered strokes as a result of prolonged distortion of their necks from sitting at salon wash basins. In 1997 medical journal The Lancet published a report by two British doctors about a 42 year old woman who suffered a stroke after having her hair washed. ref BBC, Warning over hair salon stroke , http news.bbc.co.uk 1 hi health 3654987.stm, 2004 ref The experts said the stroke was due to blockquote dissection of her right internal carotid artery. ref GMTV, Beauty Parlour Syndrome, http www.gm.tv articles gmtv today april 2004 10432 beauty parlour syndrome.html, 2005 ref Her head had been extended backwards for about five minutes while being washed and after the treatment she felt numb and suffered slurred speech. blockquote The doctors recommended that hairdressers use a cushion and that the neck is not overextended. As a result of this recommendation there have been several sink cushions developed including Nekeze, Hairtools Basin Neck Cushion and the Soft n Style cushion. Trainee Hairdressers are also being taught to make sure that their clients are comfortable. Several recent studies of the causes of strokes have identified how salon washing basins exert stress on the neck, causing the carotid or vertebral arteries to tear.
