Jules Lequier born in Quintin on January 30, 1814 died February 11, 1862 was a French philosopher from Brittany . He wrote in favour of dynamic divine omniscience, wherein God s knowledge of the future is one of possibilities rather than actualities. Omniscience, under this view, is the knowledge of necessary facts as necessary, and contingent facts as contingent. Since the future does not yet exist as anything more than a realm of abstract possibilities, it is no impugning of divine omniscience to claim that God does not know the future as a fixed and unalterable state of affairs that he does not know what is not there to be known. Lequier s approach guarantees both divine and human freedom, and suggests a partial resolution of the apparent inconsistency of human wrought evil and the perfect goodness, power and knowledge of God. Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Experiential knowledge is knowledge gained through experience as opposed to a priori before experience knowledge. In the philosophy of mind , the phrase often refers to knowledge that can only be acquired through experience, such as, for example, the knowledge of what it is like to see colour s, which could not be explained to someone born blind. See also qualia . A priori knowledge is can Adam or Eve know what water feels like on their skin prior to touching it for the first time? The phrase also crops up in philosophy of religion , as an argument against God s omniscience here it is questioned whether God could genuinely know everything, since he supposedly cannot know what it is like to sin . Writer Barry Lopez writes about experiential knowledge and how it relates back to the environment. He explains that without experiencing nature, one cannot fully know and understand the relationships within ecosystems. One can exploit the problems with non experiential based knowledge and make someone understand the necessity of experiential knowledge by asking them to explain a color like blue . This is a perfect example of the flaws of interpersonal communication because of our inability to allow a blind man to feel the essence of colors. As defined by Dr. Thomasina Borkman Emeritus Professor of Sociology, George Mason University experiential knowledge is the cornerstone of therapy in self help groups. Sharing in such groups is the narration of significant life experiences in a process through which the knowledge derived thereof is validated by the group and transformed into a corpus that becomes their fundamental resource and product. Theological determinism is a form of determinism which states that all events that happen are pre ordained, or predestination predestined to happen, by a monotheism monotheistic God . Theological determinism exists in a number of religions, including Judaism , Christianity and Islam . Hard and soft theological determinism Two forms of theological determinism exist. The first one accepts that humans have free will to choose their actions, holding that God, whilst omniscience knowing their actions before they happen , does not affect the outcome. The other form, known as Hard Theological Determinism , holds that free will does not exist, and God has absolute control over a person s actions. The most prominent theologian espousing this latter view was John Calvin , a late mediaeval French Christianity Christian who formed the doctrine of Calvinism , a form of Protestantism . Opposition from theologians Many other Christians have opposed this view. Saint Thomas Aquinas , the medieval Roman Catholicism Roman Catholic theologian, believed strongly that humanity had free will, saying that man chooses not of necessity but freely . The Jesuits were among the leading opponents of this view, because they held that divine grace was actual, in the sense that grace is among other things participative, and that humans could freely benefit from grace by a mediation between their own imperfect wills and the infinite mercy of God. Unreferenced date December 2009 Sefer ha Ikkarim Book of Principles is a fifteenth century work by rabbi Joseph Albo , a student of Crescas . It is an eclectic, popular work, whose central task is the exposition of the principles of Judaism . Agreeing with Simeon ben Joseph of Lunel i.e. Duran , Albo held that there are three basic principles ikkarim that are necessary for the divine law to exist the existence of G d, the revelation of G d, the reward and punishment of G d. From these three principles, Albo posited that there are eight derivative principles shorashim From the existence of G d derives the principle of God s unity From the existence of G d derives the principle of God s incorporeality From the existence of G d derives the principle of God s timelessness From the existence of G d derives the principle of God s perfection From the revelation of G d derives the principle of G d s omniscience From the revelation of G d derives the principle of G d s prophecy From the revelation of G d derives the principle of the authentication of G d s prophet From the reward and punishment of G d derives the principle of individual providence. The denial of these principles, no less than the denial of the first three, makes one a heretic kofer be ikkar . It is understood in Albo s work that there are three kinds of law natural law, conventional law, and divine law. Natural law is the same for all persons, times, and places conventional law is ordered by a wise judge in accord with reason divine law is given by G d through a prophet.
