His narrative of the Crusade is entitled De profectione Ludovici VII in Orientem On Louis VII s journey to the East , which relates the progress of the crusade from France to Principality of Antioch Antioch . It was written so that Suger could compose a history of Louis life. Odo explains the failure of the crusade in terms of human action rather than as the will of God, in contrast to the reasoning of Otto of Freising . His aims were to glorify Louis, but also to provide a guide for future crusaders so that the mistakes of the Second Crusade would not be repeated. Odo blamed the Byzantine Empire under Manuel Comnenus for the downfall of the crusade. Odo s prejudice against Byzantium led A History of the Crusades Runciman to describe Odo as hysterically anti Greek. However, Phillips has recently argued that Odo s view of Byzantium was possibly rooted in ideological differences which minor skirmishes between the crusaders and Greeks had brought to the fore. Odo of Cambrai Odoardus , also Odo of Tournai 1050 1113 was a Benedictine monk , scholar and bishop . He was born at Orl ans . In 1087 he was invited by the canons of Tournai to teach in that city, and there soon won a great reputation. He became a Benedictine monk 1095 in St. Martin s Abbey, Tournai , of which be became abbot later. In 1105 he was chosen Bishop of Cambrai , and was consecrated during a synod at Reims . For some time after he was unable to obtain possession of his see owing to his refusal to receive investiture at the hands of Emperor Henry IV, Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV , but the latter s son Henry restored the See of Cambrai to Odo in 1106. He laboured diligently for his diocese, but in 1110 he was exiled on the ground that he had never received the cross and ring from the emperor. Odo retired to Anchin Abbey , near Pecquencourt , where he died without regaining possession of his diocese. Many of his works are lost those extant will be found in Migne . Odo of Cheriton c .1185 &ndash 1246 47 was a Roman Catholic preacher and fabulist . He visited Paris, and it was probably there that he gained the degree of Master. Bale mentions a tradition that he was a Cistercian or a Pr monstratensian but he can hardly have taken vows if, as seems most likely, he was the Master Odo of Cheriton mentioned in Kentish and London records from 1211 to 1247, the son of William of Cheriton, lord of the manor of Delce in Rochester, Kent Rochester . In 1211 12 William was debited with a fine to the crown, for Odo to have the custodia of Cheriton, Kent Cheriton church, near Folkestone . In 1233 Odo inherited his father s estates in Delce, Cheriton, and elsewhere. A charter of 1235 6 British Museum, Harl. Ch. 49 B 45 , by which he quitclaimed the rent of a shop in London, has his seal attached, bearing the figure of a monk seated at a desk, with a star above him St. Odo of Cluny ? . He died in 1247. Odo Botnia d 1399 was the fourteenth potestaat or elected governor of Friesland, now a province in the Netherlands . Biography Odo was the son of Feicko Botnia, a nobleman of Marrum, who lived on the Botnia stins stronghold or nobles house . He would have been a descendant of the old Odo Botnia, who had built a stins at Marrum by 900. This stins was still inhabited by Helena Botnia in the year 1708. She was the last of the Botnia family.
