  1. International Banking Facility

Orphan date February 2009 Wikify date April 2010 An International Banking Facility IBF is a banking entity that any US bank, or a US branch subsidiary of a foreign bank, or an Edge Act Corporation establishes in the United States to offer services to only non US residents and institutions. The services offered include deposit and loan services. Banks may maintain IBFs in their existing quarters, but the IBF s accounting must be separate from the bank s main books. Deposit and loan services provided by IBFs are free of Federal Reserve System reserve requirements. The IBF concept was initially proposed to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors by the New York Clearing House Association in July 1978. It took until June 18, 1981 until the Board of Governors approved establishment of IBFs from December 3. IBFs were established to attract some of the money flowing out to offshore banking centers. An international bank is a financial entity that offers financial services, such as payment accounts and lending opportunities, to foreign clients. These foreign clients can be individuals and companies, though every international bank has its own policies outlining with whom they do business. According to OCRA Worldwide an organization that matches people and companies to international banking international banks tend to offer their services to companies and to fairly wealthy individuals, i.e., people with 100,000 and counting source OCRA . But plenty of international banks, particularly Swiss banks, open their doors to customers of any income bracket source Obringer . Companies do business with international banks to help facilitate international business, the complexities of which can be quite costly. Individuals work with international banks for a number of reasons, including tax avoidance, probably the term you ve heard the most in relation to offshore banking. Tax avoidance isn t necessarily illegal, as you will learn on the pages that follow. But there are plenty of other ...   more details

Image Highcourt.jpg thumb Oval Maidan with Bombay High Court in the background The Oval Maidan is a large Grade I recreational ground situated in South Mumbai , India . It is named because of its oval shape and is situated just south of Churchgate . It is a popular recreation ground and most popular sports being played there are cricket and football soccer . The ground measures 22  acres 0.089  km in area. ref area The government does not allow rallies in the maidan. File OvalMaidan 1875.jpg thumb Oval Maidan in 1875 Till 1997, the ground was owned and run by the state government and was very poorly maintained. It was frequented by beggars, prostitutes and drug peddlers. Finally in 1997 a public charitable trust set up by the residents of the area, namely the OCRA Oval Cooperage Residents Association was formed which petitioned the Maharashtra government to maintain the Oval maidan. The Maharashtra government did not respond to the petition, leading the group to take it to the Bombay High Court . The Court ruled in their favour, forcing the government to either maintain the maidan or hand it over to ORCA. The ground was subsequently handed over to the ORCA. The ORCA then went about fencing the ground and building a jogging course around the periphery. A lane which cut through the diameter of the ground was metalled to facilitate a smoother thoroughfare. To the north of the ground, a cricket academy, the Elf cricket academy, run by former Indian cricket team Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar operated for a few years.
