About 4000 horses of the Oberlander breed are currently found in Bavaria. Mare s and stallion s must pass rigorous tests in equine conformation conformation and riding to be allowed to breed. The Oberlander Horse performance test does not have a riding test in it. It has log skidding, stone boat pulling, and a single carriage portion. While at Wesleyan, he commuted to New Haven, Connecticut New Haven and received his Doctor of Medicine MD from Yale School of Medicine . In World War II , as a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy Reserve , he was chief medical officer aboard the USS Samaritan AH 10 , in the United States Pacific Fleet Pacific Fleet . When the war ended, many U.S. troops remained in the Far East awaiting transportation back to the States. Oberlander was head coach of the Navy All Stars team that beat the Army team 12&ndash 0 in the China Bowl on November 30, 1945 in Shanghai .     The Jews of Hadramaut were an ancient Mizrahi community living in present day Yemen . History Image Yemen Hadhramaut.png thumb right The Hadhramaut Governorate in Yemen today. The traditional region was larger. The community was very old, and, after the rise of Islam and the expulsion of the Hejazi Jews , the main centers of Jewish population in Arabia in Hadramaut and Jews of Aden in Aden . However, the Jews of Hadramaut were much more islolated than their counterparts in Aden , and the community only became known to the outside world in the 1940s. The community had distinctive religious traditions. Many of the Hadrami Jews convert to Islam but after the founding of the State of Israel , the community made Aliyah , and there are no more Hadramaut Jews in Yemen today. The Jews of Hadramout lived in Saya un,Tareem, Mukalla and Al Sheher, from the well known Jewish families are in Al Sheher and Mukalla Ben Haneen, Ben Haiem, Ben Yaze a, Ben Zaghio, Ben Ysra ail and Ben Qatian all of these families convert to Islam during era 1509 until the 1990. Ben Qattian Family is one of the famous Hadrami dagger makers and gold smith.     Unreferenced date February 2009 Afrikaner Jews or Boere Jode as they are sometimes known, are an off shoot of Afrikaner dom and Judaism . At the beginning of the 19th century, when greater freedom of religious practice was introduced in South Africa , small numbers of Ashkenazi Jews arrived from United Kingdom Britain and Germany . They established the first Ashkenazi Hebrew congregation in 1841. Between the end of the 19th century and 1930, large numbers of Jews began to arrive from Lithuania and Latvia . Their culture and contribution changed the character of the South African community. According to the South African Jewish Museum, Many of the later immigrants arrived with no resources other than their wits and experience. Most could not speak English when they arrived. Often they would learn Afrikaans before English. Their households were often multi lingual, with parents speaking Yiddish and Afrikaans , and the children learning English language English at school. Yiddish impact on Afrikaans Many Yiddish words have entered the Afrikaans language as Yiddish speaking South African Jews assimilated into the community, and the languages cross pollinated each other. Gradually over time the influence of Yiddish dwindled as Jews emigrated. The University of Cape Town Jewish Studies library has a comprehensive collection of South African Yiddish books. Its collection of Yiddish periodicals is, however, not as comprehensive.
