For the indigenous peoples, see Nicobar Islands . The Nicobarese languages form an isolated group of six closely related Mon Khmer languages , spoken by the majority of the inhabitants of the Nicobar Islands of India . They have a total of about 30,000 speakers 22,100 native . The majority of Nicobarese speakers use the Car language . They appear to be unrelated to the Shompen languages of the indigenous peoples indigenous inhabitants of the interior of Great Nicobar island. The morphological similarities between Nicobarese and Austronesian languages have been used to help support the Austric hypothesis . 1. Nicobarese people

Wikify date October 2010 The Nicobarese people are a Mon Khmer speaking people of the Nicobar Islands . The Nicobarese are from the Nicobar Islands which are a chain of 19 islands in the Bay of Bengal. Only 12 of the 19 islands are inhabited, the largest and main island is Great Nicobar. The term Nicobarese refers to the dominant tribes of the Nicobar Islands. On each island, the people have specific names, but together they are the Nicobarese. They call themselves Holchu, which means friend. The Nicobarese may not have been the first people to live in the islands, they appear to have shared the islands with those of Malay descent and then as years passed the Shompen came to the islands. The islands have been under the power of Asia, in the 16th century, Great Britain, from 1869 1947, and then in 1947 they were under power of India. Today they are administered by India as part of the UnionTerritory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Nicobarese are part of the Austro Asiatic language family. 1. A priori (languages)

This is the article about constructed languages. For other uses of the term a priori, see a priori . An a priori language is any constructed language whose vocabulary is not based on existing languages, unlike a posteriori languages a posteriori constructed languages. Examples of a priori languages include Ro language Ro , Solresol , Mirad , Klingon language Klingon , and Na vi language Na vi . By contrast, a posteriori languages are ones whose vocabulary is based on existing languages, either as a variation of one language e.g., Latino sine flexione or as a mixture of various languages. Some a priori languages are designed to be international auxiliary language s that remove what could be considered an unfair learning advantage for native speakers of a source language that would otherwise exist for a posteriori languages. Some a priori languages try to categorize their vocabulary, either to express an underlying philosophy or to make it easier to recognize new vocabulary. These are also known as philosophical language philosophical or taxonomic languages . References Alan Libert, A Priori Artificial Languages Languages of the World 24. Munich Lincom Europa, 2000 .
