NativeAmericans have a long relationship with hot springs . There is evidence that many of the major hot springs in the Americas were visited and used by local Indigenous peoples of the Americas native peoples . The name Tonopah derives from the Western Apache name T Nohw , meaning Water For Us or Water For You , Though there are no ruins or evidence of dwellings in the immediate vicinity of the hot springs, the prevalence of grain grinding mortar holes, pottery shards, and other man made objects in the area suggest that this site was frequented for many years by native peoples such as the Hohokam . The hundreds of very high quality arrowhead s found near existing springs in Tonopah attest to its popularity as a hunting ground. Merge Stereotypes of NativeAmericans date May 2010 The portrayal of Indigenous people of the Americas Native American s in popular culture has traditionally oscillated between the fascination with the noble savage who lives in harmony with nature and their depiction as uncivilized bad guys in the traditional Western genre Western genre . In 1851 Charles Dickens wrote a scathingly sarcastic review in his weekly magazine Household Words of painter George Catlin s show of American Indians when it visited England. In his essay, entitled http www.readbookonline.net readOnLine 2529 The Noble Savage , Dickens expressed repugnance for Indians and their way of life in no uncertain terms, recommending that they ought to be civilized out of existence . Interestingly, Dickens s essay refers back to Dryden s well known use of the term, not to Rousseau. Dickens s scorn for those unnamed individuals, who, like Catlin, he alleged, misguidedly exalted the so called noble savage , was limitless. In reality, Dickens maintained, Indians were dirty, cruel, and constantly fighting among themselves. Dickens s satire on Catlin and others like him who might find something to admire in the American Indians or African bushmen is a notable turning point in the history of the use of the phrase. ref For an account of Dickens s article see Grace Moore, Reappraising Dickens s Noble Savage , The Dickensian 98 ... favorite of Joseph Stalin . Synthesis date April 2010 legal status In general, a nativeborn citizen of a country is a person who was born within the country s territory and has been legally recognized as a citizen of that country since birth. In some countries, being a nativeborn citizen provides certain privileges and rights not afforded to naturalized or foreign born citizens, such as being able to hold certain offices or being able to pass on citizenship to one s offspring. In some countries, native birth is a requirement for certain high offices, such as the head of state or head of government . For example, according to the Constitution of Brazil , the following offices are exclusive for born Brazilians ref cite web url http www.v brazil.com government laws titleII.html title Constitution of Brazil Title II ref br I those of President of Brazil President and Vice President of the Republic br II that of President of the Chamber of Representatives br III that of President of the Federal Senate br IV that of Judge of the Supreme Federal Court br V those of the diplomatic career br VI that of officer of the Armed Forces br VII Minister of Defense. Being a nativeborn citizen is not exactly the same as the principle of jus soli that is, citizenship due to place of birth . For example, a person born in Japan to Japanese parent s is clearly a nativeborn citizen of Japan. However, such a person became a Japanese nationality law citizen of Japan due to jus sanguinis that is, citizenship through descent as Japan does not recognize the principle of jus soli . In many countries such as Japan , being nativeborn is not sufficient to confer citizenship. References references Nationality laws Category Nationality law ... more details
Unreferenced date September 2007 Foreign bornAmericans are citizens of the United States who were not yet citizens at the moment of birth and thus were born outside the country. This category excludes children of US military citizens who were born in military bases outside the United States because those newborn babies are citizens at birth due to the status of their parents. While the term immigrant is currently reserved to natural aliens as opposed to alien corporations in the United States in the current immigration debate as in the approved term undocumented immigrant in lieu of Alien law illegal alien before the recent controversy over the mainly Mexican migrants, the term immigrant would apply to foreign bornAmericans because had they been born in America, they would be nativeborn. Thus, all foreign bornAmericans logically must have travelled from abroad to arrive in the United States. Therefore they are all immigrants. Near the juncture of the Ohio and Scioto River s, the party was lured to the bank by an Indian stratagem. May and Dolly Fleming were killed outright and the four others taken prisoner. Johnston spent five weeks with the Shawnee before being ransomed for six hundred silver brooches by Francis Duchouquet, a Canadian trader. Johnston repaid his redeemer upon returning to Virginia .
