With a modern scientific understanding of genetics , one can reasonably call any human being s entire genome an accident of birth. The place of birth of a baby has an effect in immigration law of many nations, so that an accidental birth in an airport lounge may entitle a person to a passport in later life. More broadly, gender, family circumstances, cultural background, access to education, inheritance rights, are all examples of accidents of birth. The place of birth is the place where a person was born. This place is often used in legal documents, together with name and date of birth, to uniquely identify a person. The place of birth is not necessarily the place where the parents of the new baby live. If the baby is born in a hospital in another place, that place is the place of birth. In many countries, this also means that the government requires that the birth of the new baby is registered in the place of birth. In other countries, e.g. in Sweden since 1947 , there is a concept of f delsehemort domicile of birth , which means that the domicile law domicile of the baby s mother is the registered place of birth. ref Newborn children are registered as born in the parish where the mother was registered at the time of delivery. orphan date February 2009 Defect of Birth was, under former Roman Catholic canon law , a canonical impediment to ordination, stemming from illegitimacy. Under the current 1983 Code of Canon Law, illegitimacy no longer has any canonical implications or consequences. Defect of birth was an impediment to the reception of orders, and inhibited the exercise of the functions of orders already received. The prohibition did not touch the validity of orders, but made the reception of them illicit. This book of men telling the stories of their children s births is a gift an unbelievable resource with more trust, honesty and helpful information than you might find in a hundred years of conversations.
