The pass lies on the boundary between Lake County, Colorado Lake and Park County, Colorado Park counties between Leadville, Colorado Leadville west and Fairplay, Colorado Fairplay east . One of the highest passes in the state, it is traversable only on foot or with a proper four wheel drive vehicle. 2WD vehicles will find it difficult due to the stream crossings and high rocky sections. It is typically passable only during summer months.
