His best known work was 1977 s Universal Pictures A Panoramic History in Words, Pictures, and Filmographies published by Arlington House , which chronicled the history of Universal Pictures the studio . He also co authored two books with Boyd Magers, Western Women and Ladies of the Western , both from McFarland & Co., which consisted of interviews with many leading ladies of western genre western films. He dedicated this book to his nephew, Jon Fitzgerald, who grew up watching old movies with Michael as a small boy. Fitzgerald was also noted for co hosting the annual Jivin Jacks and Jills Hollywood Reunion in Studio City, California for over 20 years. Named after a dance troupe that performed in Universal films in the 1940s, the event began as a reunion for Universal actors. Fitzgerald was also an active participant in organizing the annual Memphis Film Festival from the early 2000s. He worked as an accountant in Shreveport, Louisiana , until retiring about 2004. MichaelFitzgerald was a member of the Irish Republican Army who died on Hunger strike at Cork city Cork Jail in October 1920. A native of Ballyoran, Fermoy , County Cork , Fitzgerald was educated at the Congregation of Christian Brothers Christian Brothers School in the town and subsequently found work as a mill worker in the locality. He joined the Irish Volunteers in 1914 and played an important role in building the local organisation which was soon to become the Irish Republican Army IRA . He soon rose to the rank of Battalion Commandant, 1st Battalion, Cork No.2 Brigade. On Easter Sunday, April 20 1919 MichaelFitzgerald led a small group of IRA volunteers who captured Araglin Royal Irish Constabulary baracks on the Cork Tipperary border. He was subsequently arrested and sentenced to three months imprisonment at Cork Jail. Fitzgerald was released from prison in August 1919 and immediately returned to active IRA duty. He was involved in the holding up of a party of British Army troops at the Wesleyanism Wesleyan Church in Fermoy. The troops were disarmed although one of them was killed. MichaelFitzgerald was again arrested and jailed on 8 September 1920. She made her first movie almost at the beginning of film in 1896 appearing in a self titled short film shot by Thomas Edison . She did not appear in films again until 1914 where she signed with the Vitagraph Studios Vitagraph ref Pictorial History of the Silent Screen by Daniel Blum c. 1953 ref company and was quite popular in feature films and her own series of Cissy short films. Very little of Fitzgerald s silent material survives today but she can be seen in a comic backup role in the 1928 Lon Chaney, Sr. Lon Chaney vehicle Laugh, Clown, Laugh .
