  1. Metallic paint

Unreferenced date December 2009 Metallic paint , also called polychromatic or metal flake paint, is used on the majority of new automobile s sold. Citation needed date June 2008 Metallic paint can reveal the contours of Coachwork bodywork more than non metallic, or solid paint, Close up, the small metal flakes included in the paint create a wikt sparkling sparkling effect. Description Metallics nearly always consist of a base coat with a clear lacquer or urethane top coat for protection and extra gloss. Historically, it was difficult to achieve an invisible repair if the paint was damaged because it is critical at which angle the flakes in the paint lie. Modern techniques have more or less eliminated this problem. Variations Two rarer variations are pearlescent paint , which appears as subtly different colours depending on the angle and intensity of the light, and flip colours where the colour changes more radically e.g. from purple to orange depending on the viewing angle. Flip colours have been used by Nissan on some special editions, and are frequently associated with TVR cars. A final variation, hardly ever used on automobiles but common on bicycle s and motorcycle s, is flamboyant or candy apple paint. This consists of a metallic silver base coat covered with a translucent coloured lacquer, or more commonly urethane. Flamboyant paint gives an unusual effect of depth, but is almost impossible to touch up after damage without leaving an obvious mark. Expense Manufacturers almost always charge a premium for the option of metallic paint on a new vehicle, although metallics usually account for all but one or two of the colours from the palette available only red, black, and white ... that having a car subsequently resprayed in a metallic colour is no more expensive than for a solid colour, many consider the price premium for metallic paint as a way to boost the base price of a new vehicle. While learning that the task may not be as easy as hoped, they are also confronted with a number of emotional episodes. Shmuel portrayed by Avi Kushnir is an Ashkenazi Jew , whose parents were Holocaust survivors, and is surprised to find how affected he is by the voyage. His companion Siso played by Moshe Ivgy is a Mizrahi Jew of modest means who, unlike his companion, has no working knowledge of English spoken routinely by Shmuel to the various German characters they encounter , and is therefore often overwhelmed and confused during their experience. To Siso, Shmuel s history is largely unknown, and a tragic curiosity. The dialogue between Siso and Shmuel is in Hebrew, but due to the circumstances, much of the film is also in English and German. 1. Fiber in the loop

Fiber In The Loop FITL is a system implementing or upgrading portions of the Plain old telephone service POTS local loop with Optical fiber fiber optic technology from the Telephone exchange central office of a telephone carrier to a remote Serving area interface SAI located in a neighborhood or to an Optical Network Unit ONU located at the customer premises residential and or business . Generally, fiber is used in either all or part of the local loop distribution network. FITL can be implemented with any FTTx architecture, such as fiber to the curb FTTC , fiber to the node FTTN , and fiber to the premises FTTP . Residential areas already served by balanced pair distribution plant call for a trade off between cost and capacity. The closer the fiber head, the higher the cost of construction and the higher the channel capacity. In places not served by metallic facilities, little cost is saved by not running fiber to the home. A similar network called a hybrid fibre coaxial HFC network is used by cable television operators but is usually not synonymous with fiber In the loop , although similar advanced services are provided by the HFC network. 1. Stripping (fiber)

Other uses Strip disambiguation Strip Stripping is the act of removing the protective polymer coating around optical fiber in preparation for fusion splicing . The splicing process begins by preparing both fiber ends for fusion, which requires that all protective coating is removed or stripped from the ends of each fiber. Fiber optical stripping is usually carried out by a special stripping and preparation unit that uses hot sulphuric acid or a controlled flow of hot air to remove the coating . There are also mechanical tools used for stripping fiber which are similar to copper wire strippers. Fiber optical stripping and preparation equipment used in fusion splicing is commercially available through a small number of specialized companies, which usually also designs machines used for recoating fiber optical recoating . A cleave in an optical fiber is a deliberate, controlled break, intended to create a perfectly flat endface, perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the fiber. Since there are no crystalline planes in glass , this process is not cleavage crystal cleavage in the crystallography crystallographic sense of the word, although the techniques used and the finished result are quite similar. A cleave is made by first introducing a microscopic fracture nick into the fiber with a special tool, called a cleaving ... carbide . If proper Tension mechanics tension is applied to the fiber as the nick is made ... cleave is required for a successful splice of an optical fiber, whether by Fusion splicing fusion or Mechanical splice mechanical means. Also, some types of fiber optic connector s do not employ abrasives and polishers. Instead, they use some type of cleaving technique to trim the fiber to its proper length, and produce a smooth, flat perpendicular endface. High precision optical fiber cleavers ... Tools Pen shaped scribe ... the fiber is scribed perpendicular to its length. The fiber is then pulled, which breaks at the scribe. This tool requires an experienced operator to produce good cleaves. Mechanical cleavers clamp the fiber in the correct position before a diamond wheel or blade scribes the fiber. Then, a force is applied and the fiber gives a nice break at the scribe. Mechanical cleavers give nicer and more repeatable cleaves. Multifiber cleavers are used for ribbon fiber cables. 1. Cuben Fiber

Cuben Fiber is a product marketed and developed by the Cuben Fiber and Cubic Tech Corporations http www.cubenfiber.com and http www.cubictechnology.com as a high performance base non woven fabric for applications such as yacht sails. History The name Cuben Fiber was coined by the press in reference to America C2 B3 America pronounced America Cubed , the winner of the 1992 America s Cup . During the 1992 Cup, that yacht reportedly used sails made from precursors to the currently available commercial product. In late 2007, the Cuben Fiber Corporation was acquired by North Sails. North Sails says they will continue to supply the materials to competitors on an as available basis. Production Cuben Fiber is a laminated fabric constructed from plasma treated Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene UHMWPE fiber monofilaments and polyester, PVF etc. films. Cuben fiber is sometimes confused with carbon fiber , one of the many fibers used as a reinforcement in some Cuben Fiber laminatess. Uses The material is used in yachting , performance sailing, windsurfing , inflatables, airship hulls, medical applications and, increasingly, ultralight backpacking , tents etc. Similar to sails made from traditional woven sail cloth, Cuben Fiber sails are constructed from panels that are bonded and sewn together, as opposed to 3DL sails that are laminated over a mold. The material is reportedly more durable than laminated sails of comparable strength while being lighter in weight. UHMWPE has excellent resistance to ultraviolet light and is less prone to disintegrate from repeated flexing than either Kevlar or Carbon Fiber . Limitations While the UHMWPE fiber has great breaking or ultimate strength, its elongation or creep under consistently high loads causes deformation of a sail. The patented treatment of the Cuben Fiber is said to minimize this elongation. Category Sailing equipment ...   more details

  1. B fiber

Group B fibers are nerve fibers which are moderately myelinated, which means less myelinated than A delta fiber group A fibers and more myelinated than C fiber s. Their conduction velocity is 3 to 14 m s. They are generally visceral sensory fibers and preganglionic autonomic fibers. Category Neuroanatomy neuroanatomy stub ...   more details
