  1. Analytical mechanics

Classical mechanics cTopic Formulations Analytical mechanics is a term used for a refined, highly mathematical form of classical mechanics , constructed from the 18th century onwards as a formulation of the subject as founded by Isaac Newton . Often the term vectorial mechanics is applied to the form based on Newton s work, to contrast it with analytical mechanics. This distinction makes sense because analytical mechanics uses two scalar properties of motion, the kinetic and potential energies, instead of vector forces, to analyze the motion. ref name Lanczos cite book title The variational principles of mechanics author Cornelius Lanczos page Introduction, pp. xxi xxix edition 4rth Edition publisher Dover Publications Inc. location New York isbn 0 486 65067 7 year 1970 url http books.google.com books?id ZWoYYr8wk2IC&pg PR4&dq isbn 0486650677&sig NL35zjprkiKvcdCyu5qa9AWQBLY PPR21,M1 nopp true ref The subject has two parts Lagrangian mechanics and Hamiltonian mechanics . 1. Solid mechanics

Continuum mechanics cTopic Solid mechanics Solid mechanics is the branch of mechanics , physics , and mathematics that concerns the behavior of solid matter under external actions e.g., external force s, temperature changes, applied displacements, etc. . It is part of a broader study known as continuum mechanics . One of the most common practical applications of solid mechanics is the Euler Bernoulli beam equation . Solid mechanics extensively uses tensor s to describe stresses, strains, and the relationship between them. Relationship to continuum mechanics As shown in the following table, solid mechanics inhabits a central place within continuum mechanics. The field of rheology presents an overlap between solid and fluid mechanics fluid mechanics. Continuum mechanics context Response models A material has a rest shape and its shape departs away from the rest shape due to stress. The amount of departure from rest shape is called Deformation mechanics deformation , the proportion of deformation to original size is called strain. If the applied stress is sufficiently low or the imposed strain is small enough , almost all solid materials behave in such a way that the strain is directly proportional to the stress the coefficient of the proportion is called the modulus of elasticity or Young s modulus . This region of deformation is known as the linearly elastic region. It is most common for analysts in solid mechanics to use linear material models, due to ease of computation. However .... Wikify date September 2010 Orphan date September 2010 Relativistic Mechanics refers to any form of mechanics compatible with either theories of Special Relativity and General Relativity . It is a non quantum mechanics of a system of particles or of a fluid in cases where some of the velocities are comparable to the speed of light. Special relativity states that motion is relative and the laws of physics are the same for all experimenters irrespective of their reference frames. The Galilean Transformation Suppose there are two reference frames systems designated by S and S such that the co ordinate axes are parallel as in figure. In S , we have the co ordinates x,y,z,t and in S we have the co ordinates x ,y ,z ,t . S is moving with respect to S with velocity v as measured in S in the x direction. The clocks in both systems were synchronized at time t 0 and they run at the same rate. We have the relationships x x vt y y z z t t This set of equations is known as the Galilean Transformation. They enable us to relate a measurement in one inertial reference frame to another. For example, suppose we measure the velocity of a vehicle moving in the in x direction in system S, and we want to know what would be the velocity of the vehicle in S . v x dx dt d x vt dt v x v Category Relativity ...   more details

  1. Holland Mechanics

Primarysources date January 2008 Onesource date January 2008 Holland Mechanics is a company that builds wheelbuilding machines. The first wheel lacing machine was developed around 1963 for Raleigh bicycle Raleigh UK. The machine was never put into action. After the labour union realized how many people would become obsolete they refused to use the so called Lacing machine. Later the project was continued within Gazelle Holland who was a Raleigh dealer in the Netherlands. There CC Damman the founder and owner of Holland Mechanics brought the machine to a producible type. By doing this he started the world wide automatization within the bicycle industry. ref http www.hollandmechanics.com ref The first trueing robot in 1977 Note Trueing is the process of adjusting the spoke lengths slightly so that a wheel rim runs True and does not wobble as it spins . The largest bicycle manufactures and wheeljobbers of the world like Mavic , Trek Bicycle Corporation Trek and Giant Manufacturing Giant use these types of equipment.
