    John Waller Hills Privy Council of the United Kingdom PC DCL 1867 24 December 1938 was a British Conservative Party UK Conservative politician. The second son of Herbert Augustus and Anna Hills of High Head Castle , Cumberland , Hills was educated at Eton College Eton and Balliol College, Oxford . During World War I he served as a Captain in the 4th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry . He was promoted to the rank of Major in October 1915 and Acting Lieutenant Colonel of the 20th Battalion in July 1916. He was wounded in September 1916, and mentioned in despatches . He was Conservative Member of Parliament MP for City of Durham UK Parliament constituency City of Durham from 1906 1918 and for the successor Durham City Division from 1918 1922, and Conservative member for Ripon UK Parliament constituency Ripon from December 1925. He held ministerial office as Financial Secretary to the Treasury from 1922 1923. He was appointed a Privy Council of the United Kingdom Privy Counsellor in 1929.     MOS date September 2010 Sir John York or Yorke died 1569? was an English merchant who became Master of the Mint . Life He was third son of John Yorke, by his wife Katherine Patterdale or Patterdall. On 3 September 1535 he arrived at Calais from Antwerp with intelligence of a sermon preached against King Henry VIII , by a friar in Antwerp. In 1544 he was appointed assay master to the mint. In 1547 he was promoted to be Master of the Mint at Southwark , established in the former mansion of Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk . In 1549 he was sheriff of London . In October of this year the quarrel had broken out between the Protector Somerset and John Dudley, Earl of Warwick . Life He was second son of Henry Parkhurst of Guildford , Surrey , by Alice, daughter of James Hills, and belonged to the same family as John Parkhurst , bishop of Norwich . He matriculated as a commoner of Magdalen Hall, Oxford , on 25 February 1581, was elected demy of Magdalen College, Oxford Magdalen College in 1583, and subsequently fellow in 1588.
