Until the early 1960s musicians who played keyboards were generally classified as either piano pianists or organ music organists . Since the mid 1960s, a plethora of new musical instruments with keyboards have come into common usage, requiring a more general term for a person who plays them. Matt was aged one and a half when he started playing the piano at his family home. My dad was a musician so there was always music playing in the house, but I remember being taught by a scary old piano teacher, who must have been over 90 years old . His influences range from Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis through to Squarepusher. Before playing in Jamiroquai he was a hugely respected writer and performer in bands Sunray , with whom Kym Mazelle recorded a cover of Perhaps , and Nu Hope. He has also written and produced artists with artists such as Alexia, who had a minor hit with Ring . His route into Jamiroquai was via an audition in 2001. He was recommended by Simon Katz, a previous guitarist, and Derrick gave him the call. The audition was a success and Matt is now a well established writer and member of the Jamiroquai family. Then whilst still a pupil at Chester le Street Grammar School he played Hammond organ in working men s clubs. He continued his formal musical education at Durham Technical College and was offered a place at the Guildhall School of Music, but turned it down because by then he was already forging a successful career in music. He played and recorded with a group called Splinter, who were signed to George Harrison s Dark Horse label, and also Gallagher & Lyle , and did a tour of summer festivals with Lindisfarne band Lindisfarne , which included Knebworth. He also appeared on a number of tracks of the Geordie band Geordie album No Good Woman . Clark joined Dire Straits shortly before the release of Making Movies in 1980, becoming their first and main keyboard player. His playing became an important element and transformed the band into the huge band they then became.     Christopher Donald Jackson born 27 July 1948, City of Halifax is a Canadian organ music organist , harpsichordist , and choir choral conducting conductor . A graduate of the cole de musique Vincent d Indy and the Conservatoire de musique du Qu bec Montr al , he co founded both the Soci t des Concerts d orgue de Montr al and the Studio de musique ancienne de Montr al in 1974. He has served as the Artistic Director of the latter institutions since 1988, notably conducting the ensemble in several recordings.
