He was born in Boskovice . Absolon was the grandchild of paleontologist Jindrich Wankel Jind ich Wankel . During his studies at Charles University Charles University in Prague he started with speleological research in the cave s of Moravian Karst Moravsk kras Moravian Karst in the South Moravian Region of what is now the Czech Republic . In 1907 he became the custodian of the Moravske zemske muzeum Moravian museum in Brno and a professor of paleoanthropology at the Charles University in Prague in 1926. His most known works are the paleoanthropologic discoveries at Dolni Vestonice Doln V stonice which include a Venus of Dolni Vestonice Venus figurine . He worked on the systemic mapping of the Moravsk kras, including the Macocha Abyss and the Pek rna , Punkevn and Kate insk caves. He also explored karst topography karstic caves in the Balkans , France , and England . Absolon died on October 6, 1960, in Brno .
