  1. Jutland (game)

Jutland is a Wargaming wargame designed by Jim Dunnigan and published by Avalon Hill Avalon Hill Game Company in 1967 in games 1967 . The game covers the Battle of Jutland , fought in May and June 1916 between the United Kingdom British Grand Fleet and the Germany German High Seas Fleet off the Jutland coast of Denmark . The game is unusual for an Avalon Hill game in that there is no mapboard. Instead, the game operates on two levels a higher level in which the two players use pencil marks on pre printed paper maps of the North Sea to plot movements of their fleets, and, once fleets come into contact, a lower level in which the players deploy cardboard pieces each representing a single capital ship or a flotilla of light cruisers or destroyers on any convenient flat and large surface. Game play at the lower level is more like miniature play than like Avalon Hill s traditional hexgrid mapboard game. wargame stub External links and references http www.boardgamegeek.com game 4984 Game listing at boardgamegeek.com Category Avalon Hill games Category Naval games Category Naval board wargames Category World War I games Category Jim Dunnigan games Category Tactical wargames ...   more details

  1. Jutland cattle

Jutland cattle are a rare Denmark Danish breed of cattle used in both milk dairy and beef production. Bred from the indigenous cattle of Jutland the breed could be light grey, dark grey or black pied with upward curving horns. The first herdbook published in 1881 had a small dairy type and a larger beef type. The dairy cows were small, averaging 120  cm high and weighing 350  kg, producing between 800 and 1000  kg of milk per lactation ref http neurocad.lva.lt Breeds DanishBreeds.htm Danish Cattle Breeds ref . In the first half of the 20th century the breed was extensively crossed with Dutch black and white cattle to boost milk production. By 1949 Dutch cattle and crosses were accepted into the herdbook and the name was changed to Danish Black and White Cattle. In 1955 the last purebred young bull was exhibited. Since 1987 the Jutland breed has been reconstructed using unregistered stock from farms which had avoided crossing their cattle with Dutch cattle. The modern cows are typically 132  cm tall at the withers and weigh 550  kg, while bulls are typically 145  cm tall and weigh 1000  kg. In 2004 there were 49 breeders with a total of 121 cows and 11 bulls. ref http lprdad.fao.org cgi bin EfabisWeb.cgi?sid 8bbac4168d3705ce958f7a54a6e9c2cb,reportsreport8a 50001098 FAO Animal genetic database ref Breeders receive financial support from the Danish government to keep the breed. ref http 66.102.9.104 search?q cache Y7A KgzC7K0J www.nordgen.org ngh download interview 2520danishstrategy.doc Jutland cattle&hl en&ct clnk&cd 5&gl uk&client firefox a New Danish Strategy for the Conservation of Farm Animal Genetic Resources ref References Conservation Biology Volume 20, No. 6, 1768 1779 references Category Cattle breeds cattle stub ...   more details
