    John Wesley Hunt 1773 1849 was a prominent businessman and early civic leader in Lexington, Kentucky . He was one of the first millionaires west of the Allegheny Mountains . Moving to Lexington in 1795, Hunt became a merchant, horsebreeder, hemp manufacturer, and banker. In 1799, President of the United States President John Adams named Hunt as postmaster of Lexington. In 1814, Hunt built a two story brick mansion known as Hopemont today known as The Hunt Morgan House for him and his wife Catherine. His son Charlton Hunt became the first mayor of Lexington. In the winter of 1839 1840, Hunt introduced the Standardbred horse Messenger strain to Kentucky. John Wesley Hunt s grandson, John Hunt Morgan , was a famous Confederate States Army Confederate general during the American Civil War . A great grandson, Dr. Thomas Hunt Morgan , was the first Kentuckian to win a Nobel Prize . Hunt is buried in the family plot in the Lexington Cemetery . He is a Pop Art pop artist . After holding a series of odd jobs, he began painting at the age of 22. His first exhibition consisted mostly of large format acrylic paintings of imaginary seals and stamps he would retain the flatness and limited color range of these works, but would move into the depiction of bodies and cartoon characters, the latter of which led him to be grouped with Pop Art as the 1960s progressed. The spareness of his technique often seems more akin to the school known as Minimalism , however, and indeed his closest personal associations were with artists such as Dan Flavin and Donald Judd , the latter of whom wrote a praising essay on Wesley s early work and later set aside a space for him at his complex in Marfa, Texas . Wesley himself considers his work to be aligned with Surrealism , and many of his paintings since the 1960s have taken this dimension yet further, while retaining an extremely limited range of colors and a sign like flatness. John Wesley Hillman March 29, 1832 &ndash March 19, 1915 was an United States American prospecting prospector during the California Gold Rush and explorer who was among the first European American s to see Crater Lake in the U.S. state of Oregon . Hillman was born in Albany, New York . In 1848, at the age of 16, he moved with his family to New Orleans, Louisiana . Not long after relocating to New Orleans, Hillman accompanied his father on an expedition to California during the Gold Rush in April 1849, and stayed out west when his father returned to the east. On June 12, 1853, John Wesley Hillman was reportedly the first European American to see what he named Deep Blue Lake in Oregon. According to Cockrum, Posey owned a coal mining coal mine that served as a way station for as many as 1000 escaped slaves. Biography John Wesley Crockett was born in Trenton, Tennessee on July 10, 1807 to David Davy Crockett August 17, 1786 March 6, 1836 and his first wife, Mary Polly Finley 1788 1815 . John Wesley Crockett had one brother and one sister by the names of William Finley Crockett and Margaret Finley Polly Crockett. He was educated in the Public school government funded public school system, studied law, and then was admitted to the bar association bar . He began his law practice in Paris, Tennessee . Crockett held numerous local and state offices before being elected as a Whig Party United States Whig to the Twenty fifth United States Congress Twenty fifth and Twenty sixth United States Congress Twenty sixth Congresses . He served from March 4, 1837 to March 3, 1841.
