    John George Marshall 1786 &ndash April 7, 1880 was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Nova Scotia , Canada. He represented Sydney County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1811 to 1818 and from 1820 to 1823. He was born in Country Harbour, Nova Scotia, the son of Captain Joseph Marshall judge Joseph Marshall . Marshall studied law with Lewis Morris Wilkins speaker Lewis Morris Wilkins and was called to the bar in 1810. He first set up practice in Pictou, Nova Scotia Pictou but later moved to City of Halifax Halifax . In 1809, he married Catherine Jones. Marshall resigned his seat in 1823 after he was named chief justice of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas. He also served as president of the Courts of General and Special Sessions and justice of the peace for Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia Cape Breton . Marshall retired when the Court of Common Pleas was abolished in 1841. He published The justice of the peace, and county & township officer, in the province of Nova Scotia , a textbook for local magistrates. He died in Halifax. Marshall s daughter Margaret Ann married John George Bourinot elder John George Bourinot . His nephew John Joseph Marshall also served in the province s assembly.   1. John Marshall, Lord Curriehill

    Orphan date February 2009 John Marshall, Lord Curriehill 1794 1868 was a Scottish judge. Marshall, son of John Marshall of Garlieston, Wigtonshire, by Marion, daughter of Henry Walker, was born in Wigtonshire on 7 Jan. 1794. His family were in poor circumstances, and he walked from his native place to Edinburgh in order to attend the university. He was in November 1818 called to the Scottish bar, and the proceeds of an extensive practice enabled him in course of time to purchase the estate of Curriehill in Midlothian. In March 1852 he was elected dean of the Faculty of Advocates , and on 3 Nov. in the same year a judge of the Court of Session , with the title of Lord Curriehill. He was well read in the laws relating to heritage, and his English was always precise, clear, and elegant. His interlocutor in the Yelverton case was a good example of his literary style. In October 1868 he retired from office, and on 27 Oct. died at his seat, Curriehill. In 1826 he married Margaret, daughter of the Rev. Andrew Bell of Kilcunean, minister of Crail , Fife she died in November 1866. His son, John Marshall, a barrister in 1851, became a judge of the court of session, with the title of Lord Curriehill, on 29 Oct. 1874, and died on 5 Nov. 1881, aged 54.
