  1. Santa Maria dell'Orazione e Morte

File Regola S. Maria dell Orazione e Morte.JPG thumb 240px Santa Maria dell Orazione e Morte. Santa Maria dell Orazione e Morte Saint Mary of the Prayer and Death is a small church in central Rome , on Via Giulia between the Tiber and the Palazzo Farnese . First built in 1575, the church was completely rebuilt by Ferdinando Fuga in 1733 using an elliptical plan. Inside may be seen frescoes of St. Anthony Abbot and St. Paul of Thebes by Giovanni Lanfranco these were removed and transferred to this church from a now lost structure built by Odoardo Farnese . In the first chapel at the right is a Mystical marriage of Saint Catherine in the main chapel is a Crucifixion altarpiece 1680 by Ciro Ferri . In the second chapel to the left is St. Giuliana Falconieri Receives the Habit From St. Filippo Benizi 1740 by Pier Leone Ghezzi . In the first chapel to the left features an altarpiece of the Rest on the Flight to Egypt painted by Lorenzo Masucci . Santa Maria was built by a confraternity that assumed responsibility for interring abandoned corpses in Rome. It is remarkable for the depictions of laureled skulls over the fa ade entrance and other death imagery. In this it has some of the morbid encrustations also seen in the Roman church of the Capuchins. Its charity was, and still is, supported by a the Arciconfraternita di Santa Maria dell Orazione e Morte , a purgatorial society dating to the 1560s. Burials were performed in their cemetery, once sited on the banks of the Tiber adjacent to the church. Architect Fuga and San Carlo Borromeo were members of the fraternity. gallery File Rome Santa Maria dell Orazione e Morte Kruisiging Ciro Ferri 12 01 2011 17 37 04.JPG Crucifixion by Ciro Ferri File Rome Santa Maria dell Orazione e Morte 12 01 2011 17 35 20.JPG Interior gallery Sources http www.morelli.it aom Official website http www.romecity.it Santamariadellorazione.htm Romecity website coord missing Italy Category Roman Catholic churches in Rome Maria dell Orazione Categor ...   more details

In 1997 the Order of Princess Olga was established in Ukraine . Early life Olga was a Pskov woman of Varangian extraction who married the future Igor of Kiev , arguably in 903. The Primary Chronicle gives 879 as her date of birth, which is rather unlikely, given the fact that her only son was probably born some 65 years after that date. After Igor s death, she ruled Kievan Rus as regent 945 c. 963 for their son, Sviatoslav I, Prince of Kiev Svyatoslav . Regency At the start of her son s reign, Olga spent great effort to avenge her husband s death at the hands of the Drevlians , and succeeded in slaughtering many of them and interring some in a ship burial , while still alive. She is reputed to have scalded captives to death and another, probably apocryphal Citation needed date July 2010 , story tells of how she destroyed a town hostile to her. Present day remains Lying mostly in ruins, there is a variety of remains in the area. The Abbey Church monument is in the care of Cadw . Next to the remains of the church is the graveyard , which is still active to this day, with many people choosing to be buried there. It is traditionally the burial place of the Welsh language poet, Dafydd ap Gwilym , and a memorial to him is to be found on the site, under a taxus Yew tree . The yew tree is quite famous, although it was quite damaged in storm s, when it was hit by lightning . Li Xian 653&ndash 684 , courtesy name Mingyun , formally Crown Prince Zhanghuai , named Li De from 672 to 674, was a crown prince of the History of China Chinese Tang Dynasty . He was the sixth son of Emperor Gaozong of Tang Emperor Gaozong , and the second son of his second wife Wu Zetian Empress Wu later known as Wu Zetian . He was known for writing commentaries for the Book of Later Han , the official history of the Eastern Han Dynasty . He became crown prince in 675 after his older brother Li Hong s death which traditional historians believed to be a poisoning by Empress Wu , but soon fell out of favor with Empress Wu himself. In 680, Empress Wu had her associates accuse Li Xian of treason, and he was demoted to commoner rank and exiled. In 684, after Emperor Gaozong s death, Empress Wu, then empress dowager , had her associate Qiu Shenji visit Li Xian to force him to commit suicide. In 706, his younger brother Emperor Zhongzong of Tang Emperor Zhongzong provided Li Xian with an honorable burial by interring his remains at the Qianling Mausoleum . Background Li Xian was born in 653, as the sixth son of Emperor Gaozong of Tang Emperor Gaozong and the second son of his then favorite concubine Wu Zetian Consort Wu later known as Wu Zetian . There were, however, persistent rumors inside the palace that he was not actually born of Consort Wu but of her older sister Wu Shun who was later created the Lady of Han . In 655, the same year that his mother Consort Wu displaced Emperor Gaozong s first wife Empress Wang Gaozong Empress Wang as empress , Li Xian was created the Prince of Lu. In 656, he was initially titularly given the post of prefect of Qi Prefecture , roughly modern Baoji , Shaanxi , and then the dual posts as pref ...   more details
