Compass Maps was a United States U.S. publisher of road maps. It was based in Modesto, California . It was founded in 1963 by Dick and Shirley Elke. They produced high quality maps of Northern and Southern California. They also did some maps of places in Nevada Reno, Las Vegas , as well as Salt Lake City, Utah. In 2007, they had nearly 100 area maps that they produced. However, the company shut down in March 2008 for reorganization, then reopened in May of that same year, to only shut down, this time for good, in June 2008. They are no longer a business, and are in bankruptcy. The owner of the company is going to bankruptcy court soon. Compass Maps are getting harder and harder to find, as they are not made anymore. However, some may be still found at stores such as Staples, and also at Longs Drugs CVS a drugstore in the West Coast which Compass Maps sold a lot of maps to. The atlases that Compass Maps made, are virtually nonexistent at this point. However there are a few places that still have backstock of their atlases, which there was a total of 19 titles in the end. cleanup date March 2009 MAPS is the English title for two Japanese anime Original video animation OAV s the original MAPSMAPS Densetsu no Samayoeru Seijintachi, 1987 and the remake MAPS Densetsu no Fukkatsu, 1994 . Both are based on Hasegawa Yuichi s manga series MAPS , serialized monthly in Nora magazine from 1985 to 1994. The basic story is that normal Earth boy Gen and his girlfriend Hoshimi meet Lipumira, a scantily clad blond woman from outer space, who tells Gen that he is the mapman, meaning the map to a great treasure is coded in his genes. Gen and Hoshimi leave Earth with Lipumira on this quest shared by evil space people whom they are often compelled to fight against. MAPS apparently influenced later and better rated space journey series, such as Outlaw Star , Seih Buky Autor Sut which has a similar plot with a treasure as the ultimate goal. Notable aspects of the series are the spaceships which look like giant silver angelic women, often described as hood ornaments and cyborg women that control and are the brains of them. Each ship and its pilot is a distinct character, from playful to evil. Reviews of both series are generally mixed to negative, their incompleteness being a major focus of criticism. Message Maps the Microsoft Foundation Class Library message map facility. Microsoft Windows implements what are essentially virtual functions in window classes using its messaging facility. Due to the large number of messages involved, providing a separate virtual function for each Windows message results in a prohibitively large vtable . MFC provides an alternative to the switch statement used in traditional Windows programs to handle messages sent to a window. A mapping from messages to member functions may be defined so that when a message is to be handled by a window, the appropriate member function is called automatically. This message map facility is designed to be similar to virtual functions but has additional benefits not possible with C virtual functions. Message Maps, maps the user action in to the appropriate MFC class functions to handle it. The MFC Class which can handle message should be member of CCmdTarget, i.e it should be hierarchically derived from CCmdTarget. The advantage of Message Map is the same action can be mapped to more than one MFC class function.
